Supervising Bookbinder

Under general supervision, assists and supervises subordinates in readying paper for printing and finishing and preparing printed customer and employee information materials for pick-up. Responsibilities include: setting up, feeding and tending various bindery machines to collate, fold and bind printed materials; schedules incoming work and assigned work to bindery employees; generate and prepare imposition book "signatures" for pre-press offset stripper and bindery. Examines stitched or bound books to ensure that pages are bound in numerical or folio order and for such defects as imperfect binding, ink spots and torn, loose, or unevenly printed pages. Ensure that work is completed in a timely manner and is in compliance with work order. Writes daily reports on work schedule/completed by bindery staff. Trains new employees in proper bindery procedures and operating of machines. Cross-trains experienced employees to promote familiarity with and skill in operating all types of bindery equipment. Loads, unloads, moves, and lifts materials using forklifts and/or other material handling equipment. Also includes manually boxing and palletizing finished products; and maintaining a computer database for incoming paper supplies and outgoing materials. Ability to lift 25-40 pounds repetitively. Must be willing to work rotation shifts, weekends, and overtime as business needs dictate.
REQUIREMENTS
1) A four-year high school diploma and or its educational equivalent and three years of satisfactory full-time bookbinding experience; OR
2) Five (5) years of satisfactory bookbinding experience as described in "1" above; OR
3) Education and/or experience equivalent to "1" or "2" above.

DESIRED SKILLS:
Experience operating Polar cutter, MBO folder, Horizon perfect binder, Bourg collator, Planex binders, Bosch stitcher and Iram drill.
