Affect an arrest, forcibly if necessary using handcuffs & other restraints. Subdue resisting subjects using hands & feet while employing defensive tactic maneuvers or approved non-lethal weapons. Pursue fleeing suspects on foot both day & night in unfamiliar terrain. Use body force to gain entrance through barriers to search, seize, investigate and/or rescue. Perform searches of persons which involve touching, smelling & feeling to detect potential weapons & contraband. Climb over obstacles; climb through openings; jump down from elevated surfaces; jump over obstacles, ditches & streams; crawl in confined areas to pursue, search, investigate and/or rescue. Conduct searches of buildings & large outdoor areas which may involve walking and/or standing for long periods of time. Also requires the ability to distinguish color & perceive shapes. Perform tasks which require lifting, carrying or dragging people or heavy objects while performing arrest, rescue or general patrol functions. Also may include the seizure or impound of property & evidence.
REQUIREMENTS
Salary
$17.60 - $26.13 per hour to start.At the discretion of the hiring authority, individuals possessing
relevant experience and/or certification may be hired above the entry
level.Upon successful completion of the 19 week academy, Sheriff’s Deputy
Trainees advance to the position of Deputy Sheriff ($19.19 hourly /
$39,915 annually)._
Position Qualifications
At time of application:* Must be at least 21 years of age.
* Must have a high school diploma or GED certificate.
* Must be a US citizen.* Must be in possession of a government-issued birth certificate (at
time of background processing).
* Must be registered to vote in Maricopa County at time of hire.
* Because driving is an essential function, must have a valid Arizona
driver's license at time of hire.MEDICAL: Must be medically acceptable for the Sheriff's Deputy Trainee
position meeting Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training
(P.O.S.T.) Board and Public Safety Personnel Retirement System medical
requirements, including vision requirement.SPECIAL: Prior to hiring, the Sheriff’s Office requires that all
applicants must pass a polygraph examination, background investigation,
