Regional Program Mgr - Safety Product - Government West Region

Major Purpose
Lead the field sales organization as the market expert on Safety products/services solutions and supplier sales resources. Provide leadership to field sales on identifying regional and local market opportunities. Direct Supplier resources to those opportunities, while closing sales and implementing contracts as required. Deliver increased profitable growth and improved product mix for their respective category. Assist sales management with supplier relationships and effective use of supplier resources.


Major Responsibilities

- Lead an assigned Account Manager team to more profitable growth by selling a better balance between low margin commodities and value added solutions..
- Manage the communication of sales strategy, sales results and the effective utilization of resources to Grainger and Supplier leadership and management teams in the local market area.
- Provide sales leadership, product and market knowledge to an assigned field sales and management team internally and externally with the Grainger customer.
- Co-manage key supplier relationships to ensure that resources are being optimized and aligned to support Grainger's local sales and branch service teams with District Sales Managers.
- Assist Corporate Accounts, Government and Account Managers by providing subject matter expertise on the creation of large agreements or contracts and the associated implementation activities.
- Work in tandem with Corporate Sales Managers, Government Sales Managers and Account Managers to actively call on Grainger customers who are or could become contractual customers.
- Call directly on end users for the specific purpose of making sales and closing business.
- Provide customer Safety program assessment to address specific business issues related to product usage, consolidation, training and regulatory issues.
- Work with Product Management Team to provide field input on the effectiveness of safety programs and supplier performance.

- Possesses effective project management, planning and facilitation skills.

- Has a demonstrated ability to influence and persuade various levels of internal decision-makers.
- Has a demonstrated ability to sell at multiple levels in organizations.
- Possess thorough understanding on the given product category. Has strong product knowledge and market or industry knowledge and is capable of transferring that knowledge to others.


This position will cover a 18-state region. Although candidate can reside anywhere in the region, 50% or greater travel is required. Experience selling to government accounts is strongly preferred.
