Job DescriptionProvides individual and group counseling services to assist individuals in achieving more effective personal: social development and adjustment by performing the following duties. This is an advanced professional level psychological services position and works under the management of the Supervising Psychologist or Program Director.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following; other duties may be assigned.Interviews patients in institution and studies medical and social case histories.Treats psychological disorders to effect improved adjustments.
Selects approach to use in individual therapy such as directive, non-directive and supportive therapy and plans frequency, intensity and duration of therapy.Collaborates with Psychiatrist and other specialists in developing treatment program for patients.Collects data about individual through use of interview, case history, and observational techniques.
Selects and interprets psychological tests designed to assess individual’s intelligence, aptitudes, abilities and interests.
Evaluates data to identify cause of problem of individual and to determine advisability of counseling or referral to other specialists or institutions.
Conducts counseling or therapeutic interviews to assist individual to gain insight into personal problems define goals and plan action reflecting interests, abilities, and needs
Provides occupational, educational and other information to enable individual to formulate realistic plans.Follows up results of counseling to determine reliability and validity of treatment used.Engages in research to develop and improve diagnostic and counseling techniques.Administers and scores psychological tests.Serves as a consultant to Mental Health Services, Medical Services and the ADOC on treatment related mental health issues.
Assures continuity of care for inmates released to the community when establishing communication with community facilities accessible to inmates when released indicates such care. Will also communicate with family members regarding aftercare as possible and when indicated.SUPERVISING RESPONSIBILITIESMHM offers a comprehensive benefits plan as well as CEU reimbursement!
