Full-Time Telecommunicator

The Village of Westmont is seeking qualified individuals for the position of Telecommunicator. A Telecommunicator is responsible for the emergency and non-emergency requests for service for police, fire and EMS for the Village. The Telecommunicator operates a variety of communication equipment including computer dispatching, 9-1-1 telephone lines, Emergency Medical Dispatching, alarm boards, Motorola radio consoles and similar devices. Computer knowledge and proficient typing skills are a must for Computer Aided Dispatching (CAD) entry.

Applicants must be available to work various shifts and hours, must possess the ability to function in a multi-task environment under stressful situations, and have above average memory recollection and a demonstrated ability to make correct decisions quickly when operating under stressful conditions with limited information. The Village has a policy that restricts smoking in and around Village facilities. Applicants should consider adaptability to such smoking restrictions.

Starting salary for this position is $20.06 per hour based on applicant’s qualifications. No phone calls please.

REQUIREMENTS
Education:
•Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to the completion of four years of high school.
Experience:
•Requires successful completion of the Illinois Law Enforcement Telecommunicator Training within a reasonable period of time following employment.
•Requires working knowledge of radio and telephone equipment and operating procedures.
•Requires working knowledge of police and fire operations, procedures and terminology.
•Requires working knowledge of the streets, main traffic arteries, and general layout of the jurisdiction within a reasonable period of time following employment.
