Join us in the fight against cancer! The American Cancer Society is seeking a self-motivated individual to become part of our team and help us achieve our mission to eliminate cancer as a major health problem.

Based in our Seattle office, this position will serve as the primary Government Relations media relations and marketing contact. Provides strategic planning, messaging, and consultation for all government relations staff. Provides media advocacy training to staff and volunteers. Supports and enhances the effectiveness of the Government Relations campaigns and programs. Serves as liaison with the National Government Relations Department and with the GW Division and National Communications and Marketing Departments.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Project managemer of the Government Relations best practice advocacy media relations and communication activities.

Provides leadership in defining media advocacy, marketing and communication objectives for the State and Federal Government Relations Teams.

Collaborates with Metro and Region Media Relations and Marketing Directors to implement a media advocacy program for GWD.

Provides media advocacy communications guidance, advice and materials to Government Relations staff and volunteers in support of Mission objectives.

Provides media advocacy and media spokesperson training for government relations staff and volunteers.

In partnership with CGRO and Division GR Vice Presidents, develops media advocacy plan annually to disseminate ACS advocacy messages and promote ACS legislative agenda in the Great West Division

Seeks out opportunities to better serve diverse constituents affected by cancer with proactive messaging related to advocacy.

Develops and cultivates assigned constituent relationships.

REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree and/or 5 years equivalent work experience in public policy/media advocacy/communications field and 5 years of project management experience. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must be able to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines. Demonstrated success in building relationships with print and electronic media representatives. Demonstrated understanding of the legislative process at the state and federal levels. Demonstrated success in team leadership. Ability to use personal computer equipment for extended periods of time. Extensive travel may be required depending on business needs.
