In the Alabama Army National Guard, the Cavalry Scout is a Soldier who leads, serves, or assists as a member of scout crew, squad, section, or platoon in reconnaissance, security, and other combat operations. His contributions are integral to the overall success of his team.

The Alabama Army National Guard is an elite group of warriors who dedicate a portion of their time to serving their nation. Guard members train part-time to be ready full-time, should their state or nation call them to serve.

Major Duties

Operates, and performs operator maintenance on scout vehicles, Armored Airborne Reconnaissance Vehicles, and Cavalry Fighting Vehicles, crew-served weapons, and communications equipment.Loads, clears, and fires individual and crew-served weaponsOperates and performs operator maintenance on wheeled vehiclesAssists in the recovery of wheeled and tracked vehiclesSecures, prepares, and stows ammunition on scout vehiclesPerforms mounted and dismounted navigationServes as member of observation and listening postGathers and reports information on terrain features and enemy strength, disposition and equipmentCollects data for the classification of routes, fords, tunnels, and bridgesEmploys principles of cover and concealment and camouflageAssists with construction of light field fortifications, laying and removal of mines, and emplacing demolitions
