DUTIES

This is full performance electrical systems, wire and cableline work in the alteration, installation, maintenance and repair of all aspects of the City's electrical infrastructure. Employees in this class inspect, install and troubleshoot and repair breakdowns in wiring, cableline and/or other electrical equipment and fixtures for city-wide power distribution, electrically operated traffic signal, street lighting, multiple conductor communication and/or other general municipal electrical systems.

For additional information regarding this opportunity please refer to www.phila.gov/personnel.

HOW TO APPLY

Interested candidates should apply on-line. Qualifications must include the type of facilities worked (i.e. industrial facility) and the voltage of the equipment maintained and repaired.

Those candidates determined to be qualified will be notified to complete a standard application used to formally apply for most City civil service jobs and asked to complete and submit the application. Please note that applicants must remit, at the time of application, a non-refundable application fee in the amount of $35.00.

Qualified candidates will then be asked to take a civil service examination. The exam for Electrician is a performance examination, where you are asked to perform a series of electrical maintenance and/or repair tasks which are scored by experts in the profession. Examination exercises will measure knowledge and skill required to perform this job. Candidates may also be asked to complete a short series of multiple-choice questions assessing basic theoretical knowledge of the electrician field. Candidates that pass the examination are placed on a hiring list based upon their test scores, and those with the highest scores are considered first for employment opportunities.
