Mechanic/Gearman
Summary:Under moderate supervision, performs general routine maintenance on road equipment, maintains gear, aids with mechanical functions of military vehicles. Responsible for the safe, efficient and cost effective maintenance of MTC East operations vehicles and gear.Responsibilities:1. Performs regularly scheduled maintenance of all buses, vans, and pick up trucks.
a. Tune ups, oil changes, filter replacement, brakes, lights, lenses etc.
b. Routinely checks fluids, and tops off fuel, transmission fluid, brake fluid radiator coolant etc.2. Performs minor repairs on brakes, tires, engine, and air conditioning and associated systems.3. Perform routine minor maintenance on forklifts and cranes.4. Maintains gear and supplies, lifting gear, lashing gear, rail tools and supplies.5. Provides immediate repairs to start inoperative army vehicles / cargo.6. Supports operations by ensuring all works sites have the necessary equipment, tools and gear to all work sites.7. Maintains detailed monthly records of mileage, hour readings, and shop inventory.
8. Liaison between vendors for all mechanical repairs, tire replacement, and gear certification.9. Maintains shop and office in a clean, organized and safe condition.
REQUIREMENTS
1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Three to five years shop experience.
3. Ability to organize multiple projects and to respond quickly and thoughtfully in a fast paced environment.
4. Ability to effectively communicate and work well with others.
5. Requires knowledge of lifting gear uses and safe working loads.
6. Must have thorough knowledge of military vehicles.
7. Valid state driver’s license CDL license preferred
8. Hazmat endorsement desirable.
9. Provide own mechanic tools for minor repairs.Working Conditions:
1. Must be able to perform physical work on all equipment and gear to include:
a. Lifting to waist level of 50 pounds on a routine basis.
b. Pulling, and pushing vehicles and equipment.
c. Prolonged bending, stretching and kneeling.
d. Manual hand dexterity required to grasp, hold and twist tools.2. Vision correctable to 20/20
