HVACR Mechanic
RESPONSIBILITIES:
A position classified as HVAC&R Mechanic is available in the Physical Plant HVAC&R Department. The normal working hours are 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday. However, may be required to work other times, including evenings and/or weekends including responding to emergency calls. If required by job duties, employee must be able to fulfill the University's requirements concerning issuance and use of University keys. Personnel who possess the special qualifications and training necessary for this position may apply. This is an AFSCME bargaining unit position. Internal and external applicants may apply.
REQUIREMENTS
QUALIFICATIONS:

Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.
Required Education and Work Experience and/or Training:
High school diploma or GED. Possession of Certificate of completion in Universal Application of Refrigerant Transition and Recovery. Successful completion of the University's apprentice program; or an Associate's degree in a related field with 5 years of commercial work experience; or 10 years work experience in commercial HVAC&R in lieu of completion of apprenticeship program or an associate's degree. Valid driver's license.
Required Skills and Abilities:
1.Work and direct others harmoniously in situations of variable temperatures, occasional noise, and stressful workloads.2.Perform skilled work in all HVAC&R-related duties.
3.Utilize proper technical procedures and techniques.
4.Understand and know methods, materials, tools, equipment, occupational hazards, and safety precautions of the HVAC&R trade.
5.Understand, use good judgment, and follow procedures established through safety training and the physical plant safety manual.
6.Keep and maintain accurate records.
7.Perform mathematical computations with a high degree of accuracy.
8.Direct and train others in the performance of the characteristic duties.
9.Read, understand, interpret, and follow blue prints, sketches, schematics, specifications, directions, safety labels, equipment operations manuals, etc.
10.Understand systems and their proper operation.
11.Erect and work from ladders, scaffolding, boom truck, and related devices.
12.Communicate effectively with students, staff, faculty and visitors.
13.Work independently.
14.Maintain University standards of good workmanship in both quality and quantity.
15.Work with least amount of inconvenience to all people involved.
16.Have considerable knowledge of applicable building code rules and regulations.
17.Demonstrate extensive knowledge of applicable ASHRAE and EPA rules and regulations.
18.Utilize computer to access facility controls and to perform other required duties.
Preferred - Current State of Michigan Mechanical Contractor's License, 1-7.SALARY:
