Deckhand

Overview of Job Responsibilities: Deckhands assist others on the vessel in preparing barges for the loading and discharging of cargos. Deckhands build tows by handling lines and cables to tie and untie barges and boats. Deckhands perform scheduled vessel maintenance care for tools and equipment, and perform general housekeeping duties as assigned by their supervisor. They adhere to company safety policy and procedures, environmental rules and governmental regulation. Deckhands work under the supervision of the Master of the Deckhand’s immediate supervisor.
REQUIREMENTS
Learning and Training
1.Learns safety rules and safe use of equipment.
2.Follows work direction from the master or immediate supervisor.
3.Trains under a licensed Tankerman in preparation for obtaining a Tankerman’s license.
4.Learning United States Coast Guard regulations relative to handling hazardous cargoes and safe use of equipment.
