Job Description:
POSITION PURPOSE
Under general supervision, ensures unix servers, workstations, printers, and software packages are up and running during normal operating hours. Uses working knowledge of unix/Solaris to resolve system and user level problems. This position has the ultimate responsibility for ensuring all systems are running at their optimal performance level and maintaining 99.99 % availability.

MAJOR TASKS, RESPONSIBILITIES AND KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Systemadministration:
Install, test, monitor, troubleshoot, and support Solaris servers. Includes replacing failed or failing parts. Will interface with Sun Service and other vendors to help resolve problems.

Responsible for keeping production and development servers and printers up and running during normal operating hours. Responsible for creating, testing, and implementing emergency procedures to be used should a failure occur.

Install, upgrade, and patch Solaris operating systems and third party software. This includes working weekends and after-hours as many tasks require the servers to be in single-user mode or network equipment to be reset.

Maintain external and internal DNS, NIS, and NFS files and maps. Keep NIS maps in sync with the LDAP database. Assist Helpdesk personnel with adding users.

Second tier support for Systems issues. Will use Remedy Helpdesk software to log internal trouble tickets.

Schedule and maintain system backups and restores for production and development Solaris servers.

Design, code, test, and support scripts to administer unix systems.

Communications:
Provide weekly status reports to management on systems performance and weekly activities.
Attend executive level meetings to determine future systems requirements to support business objectives.
Conduct periodic meetings with Managers and Directors of other departments to address performance and/or new business opportunities.
Make recommendations on policies and proceedures to enhance systems performance or process efficiencies.
Be a team player working in a team environment.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to risk of elelctrical stock and vibration

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Must be eighteen years of age
Must pass the Drug Test
Must pass the Background Check
Must pass pre-employment tests if applicable

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND COMPETENCIES
Have a working knowledge of Domain Name Service (DNS), Network Information Services (NIS), Network File Systems (NFS), and automounter.

Be proficient in a shell scripting language.

Have a working knowledge of RAID.

Be able to convert from hexadecimal, octal, and binary to decimal; and from decimal to hexadecimal, octal, and binary.

Organize, prioritize, and schedule work assignments in accordance with deadlines.

Working knowledge of internet. Must be able to download patches and software from web sites. Must be able to do research via the web.

Operate a unix workstation and be proficient in Solaris.

Operate a personal computer including word processing and spreadsheet software.
