Sr. Category Manager - General Merchandise

Our client is seeking a Senior Category Manager for General Merchandise. Your busy day will consist of working with the Senior Merchandising Team, Marketing and Operations to define specific strategies for all retail stores in the organziation. You will have full P&L responsibilities.

You will develop and manage a business process based on the principles of category management
You will manage the procurement efforts for multiple retail locations
You will assure good working relations between merchandising and operations, marketing, supply & logistics in order to assure organizational alignment and efficiencies
You will maintain high-level relations with suppliers.
You will have budgeting and forecasting responsibilities for the General Merchandise business across all locations.
You will also be responsible for total sales and net profitability across all locations

In order to qualify you must have:
•College degree in Business Management preferred
•5+ years merchandising experience in GENERAL Merchandise in 4 or 5 these categories such as Electronics, Auto Supplies, Hardware, Film/Cameras, Audio/Video products, Pre-recorded Media, Phone Accessories, Prepaid Cards, Photo Finish, Charcoal/firewood/salt, Battery and Flashlight, Carpet Care, Insect & Pest and Smoking Needs.

•5+ years leading general merchandise categories set above within the retail, convenience or big box environments for multiple locations
•Must have strong analytic skills and the ability to think strategically. Be able to write thorough business plans and communicate ideas
•Must be able to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and be flexible in working on multiple projects simultaneously
•Must be a team player and interact with staff at all levels/functions of the company and its operating units
•Ability to build, develop and maintain business relationships
•Demonstrated attention to detail, customer service, and problem resolution
•Excellent oral and written communication skills
•Ability to earn and sustain trust and maintain a high level of confidentiality
•Computer proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
