Aviation Database Specialist





POSITION DESCRIPTION SUMMARY:

This is a technical position responsible for running PC and VAX-based tools that process ARINC 424 navigation data purchased from third-party vendors then produce navigation databases capable of being loaded into Rockwell Collins Flight Management Systems (FMS). Additionally, for regional airline customers, create and deliver a company route database with each navigation database update.





PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Ensure that all impacted customers receive navigation database alerts when required.

Develop and maintain a high level of technical/operational proficiency on Flight Management Systems (FMS) and ARINC 424 navigation databases.

Using customer inputs, develop navigation data bases and company routes using appropriate computer applications.

Perform database verification using system rigs and/or simulation tools.

Interface with internal and external organizations to coordinate resolution of reported FMS and navigation database field problems.

Prepare related documentation.





WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

Assignments are moderately to very complex.

Works with minimal supervision with a considerable degree of freedom.

Has contributory or shared decision impact.  Erroneous decisions can severely impact division profits.

Interfaces with numerous external customers, Rockwell Collins Customer Support Engineers, aircraft manufacturers representatives, database suppliers, dealers, and regulatory authorities.









REQUIREMENTS


KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

Undergraduate degree in engineering, science or equivalent plus 2 to 4 years of related experience. Excellent communication skills, experience with computer applications, and some travel required. Ability to work with customers to determine customer's requirements and respond to customer inquiries. Knowledge of Collins Proline 4 and Proline 21 architecture highly desired. Current pilot's license with instrument rating highly desired.
