Managing Editor

Candidate must have solid background in the medical
education industry and prior management experience. Background to include
understanding of several therapeutic areas and knowledge of processes
involved in producing slide kits, CD-ROMs, newsletters, journal
abstracts/articles, and monographs, and in managing websites. Excellent
content editing and writing skills are essential. This high-energy
individual and strong team player must be able to thrive in a fast-paced,
deadline-oriented environment. Candidate must be diligent, flexible,
organized, detail oriented, and able to handle many different tasks
simultaneously. Reports to Senior Managing Editor/Editorial
Director.Either personally or through subordinates/delegation,
responsibilities include:
Follows daily progress of assigned CME projects through the editorial
process, troubleshooting as necessary, while maintaining ongoing quality
control for content
Adheres to timelines and other project specifications within budget
Writes and edits scientific medical copy; involved in creation of meeting
materials; may be asked to write summary reports of meetings
Monitors and mentors editorial staff and freelance writers as assigned;
reviews their work and that of freelancers for quality and adherence to
specifications
Remains current on scientific content in assigned therapeutic area(s)
Liaises with faculty/consultants and grantors
Familiar with CME and copyright guidelines
Ensures materials are formatted according to AMA or inhouse project style
Provides strategic input to account team on issues of content and
faculty, and may contribute to the development of new business proposals
Communicate effectively with various departments, such as editorial
services, account management, CME department, traffic, art, and production
Travel required during peak season
Other tasks and duties may be assigned as business needs dictate
REQUIREMENTS
Education/experience:
BA/BS degree required;
Must have 3 to 5 years’ relevant editorial experience in medical
education or medical publishing. Familiarity with website management a
plus.
Knowledge of diabetes and pain management content fields also a plus.Computer Skills:
Adept with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook applications for PC
