Director, Global Procurement
JOB OBJECTIVE: Develop an integrated global purchasing strategy that will support organizational objectives, providing Promega with a competitive advantage in the areas of materials, supplies, services and purchasing practices. Identify and pursue opportunities to improve profitability and lower the overall cost of purchased goods and services by partnering with vendors, consolidating/leveraging purchases, effectively negotiating contracts, and streamlining existing processes.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
1.Develop organizational strategy and practices that will provide Promega with a world class purchasing organization.
2.Manage and facilitate all facets of supply management activities between business units and their suppliers including vendor evaluations and site audits.
3.Analyze requirements and develop a consolidated supplier base to meet current and future commodity needs.
4.Create and maintain mutually beneficial long-term partnerships with suppliers to reduce procurement costs, to assure continuity of supply, to improve internal and external purchasing practices, and promote continuous improvement.
5.Manage vendor relationships including vendor qualification, price and contract negotiation and continuous improvement to minimize cost and maximize quality and delivery performance.
6.Understand and monitor key spending trends, cost drivers, market factors, geographic considerations, and strategic importance of critical commodities in order to implement appropriate sourcing strategies to control the company’s purchased material costs and to assure an adequate supply of high quality goods and services.
7.Develop metrics, including external benchmarks, to monitor performance and allow for data driven decision making. Ensure that metrics, including benchmark data, and performance measurements are directly tied in and support the corporate objectives and performance indicators.
8.Develop reliable processes to ensure high efficiency and effectiveness of the purchasing organization.
9.Partner with other functions to support strategic goals for sourcing materials, equipment, and/or services.
10.Ensure ethical principals and standards of purchasing practices.
11.Direct purchasing personnel including hiring, performance evaluation, and professional development.
12.Develop, monitor and control departmental operating and capital budgets.
13.Ensure department and purchasing practices comply with all applicable safely, regulatory and quality system requirements.
14.Will understand and comply with all elements of Promega’s Quality System outlined for the position.
REQUIREMENTS
MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS:
1.BA/BS degree in Business, Engineering, Materials Management or equivalent.
2.8 to 15 years of progressive experience (Sourcing, S&OP, Logistics, and Operations) in Procurement/Supply Chain, including at least 5 years in a mid to senior level management role.
3.Strong working knowledge of advanced purchasing techniques and best practices.
4.Practical knowdge of leading edge purchasing strategies and of the business planning process; demonstrated ability to design the strategy, and successfully execute against the business plan.
5.Strong analytical skills including benchmarking, data collection and trend analysis.
6.Strong negotiation skills and ability to develop successful relationships with internal and external customers. Experience with critical high-risk negotiations for equipment, services, or materials with significant financial impact on the company is desirable.
7.Vendor selection and site audit experience.
8.Previous experience leading and/or participating in the development of global commodity management programs.
9.Prior experience being a champion of change management relative to the progression and advancement of purchasing programs and business process re-engineering.
10.Excellent leadership and communications skills. Proven ability to lead, influence and motivate others.
11.Advanced ERP systems knowledge.
12.High degree of emotional intelligence, flexibility, optimism and self-motivation.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1.Prior purchasing experience in the life science industry.
2.Cross-functional business team environment experience with broad understanding of business and purchasing impact.
3.Understanding of ISO 13485 Quality System requirements.
4.Global purchasing experience.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
1.Ability to use computer equipment.
2.Ability to move up to 30 pounds on an occasional basis.
3.Ability to travel.
