Assistant Manager
GFS Marketplace – Assistant Manager Position Summary: Creates a team atmosphere where the Gordon Food Service (GFS) values and philosophies flourish to help build and drive the sales through the “customer is king” mentality. While each individual will have specific positional responsibilities, as part of the management team they will be responsible for managing all aspects of store operations including customer service, store conditions, and the selection, training, and coaching of Marketplace Associates. Essential Functions: - The Assistant Manager will focus on assuring that all merchandising techniques and systems are properly implemented to ensure the quality of product programs; the execution of all inventory procedures resulting in inventory accuracy; and the training of new merchandising programs. - The Assistant Manager will focus on associate staffing, development, financial controls and audits and systems. They are responsible for training associates and managers on customer service standards and system applications and processes. - Provides hands on leadership style, setting excellent work ethic example, a sense of urgency, and a positive attitude for associates. - Insure the GFS Marketplace sales plans, policies, and procedures are followed to achieve maximum operating results. - Managing the maintenance and upkeep of the store. - Interviews, hires, train, and retain staff. Conducts performance monitoring of staff, initiating follow through with disciplinary action and termination in consultation with Human Resources when appropriate. Mentors, motivates, and develops staff and acts as a role model and resource to them. - Adheres to the purpose and philosophy of the organization including, but not limited to the cornerstone values and applicable practices of the organization. - Drives their personal development through the phase training program. - Assists in the development of the operational budget for the store. Assists in the monitoring, management of the budget, analyzes variances and takes appropriate action and develops plans for productivity improvements. - Adheres to the purpose and philosophy of the organization including, but not limited to the cornerstone values and applicable practices of the organization. - Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
Education: High school diploma or general equivalent degree. Bachelor’s degree preferred. Experience: At least two years of management experience in a foodservice, restaurant, grocery, or retail environment, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Essential Physical and Mental Requirements: Must have excellent written and verbal communication and customer service skills, good organizational and problem solving skills to represent the department and speak at minor functions. Must have the ability to multi-task, prioritize and be able to work independently or within a team environment. Must be able to drive sales through the “customer is king” mentality and be able to lead and develop a team. Must be able to work a minimum of 50 hours per week, 10-hour workdays, including varying shifts ranging from 4:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., and six- day workweeks throughout the year. The stores are open 7 days a week; schedules include weekends and holidays. Must be able to travel to attend meetings. Must maintain a valid state driver’s license and safe driving record per GFS policy. Problem Solving: Develop solutions to a variety of problems of moderate scope and complexity. Equipment/Computer Skills: Knowledge of spreadsheet, word processing, e-mail, and Internet software applications. Knowledge of general office equipment, RF gun, scale, and slicing preferred. Working Conditions: While performing the responsibilities of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and bend and is subject to heavy physical labor. The employee is frequently required to talk or hear. The employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The noise level is normal retail environment.
