Temporary Part-Time Facilities Maintenance Specialist
Kaplan's Corporate Real Estate & Facilities Department in Chicago is searching for a temporary Part-Time Facilities Maintenance Technician/Specialist to provide daily, hands-on operational and facilities support to all office locations (for various business units) within the Chicago area. The person must have general handyman type experience (all trades preferred) and mechanical aptitude as well as preferred experience in the building trades (Building Maintenance or Construction trades). Corporate Facilities or Building Maintenance Background preferred. The candidate must have a valid driver's license, a good driving record and must be able to drive daily to locations within a 40 mile radius of downtown Chicago. The candidate will work out of Kaplan University's offices in the West Loop. The position will be temporary part-time position (3 days per week).Responsibilities include:
o Identify and correct building and equipment problems by performing carpentry, electrical, plumbing, painting and HVAC work to maintain buildings and equipment in safe condition using hand, power and specialty tools.
o Inspect Kaplan's Chicago facilities, equipment, building systems (electrical, plumbing, etc...) using a pre-established check sheet to ensure all facilities are safe, clean and maintain Kaplan's professional appearance to staff and customers.
o Respond quickly to all facilities emergencies and assist key personnel with the timely, cost effective solutions to get the facility back up and running.
o Stock building supplies, materials and parts (paint, brushes, tools, plumbing parts, etc...) needed to maintain Kaplan's facilities.
o Answer requests for maintenance from local Kaplan staff, schedules appoints to complete maintenance work himself or with other vendors and follows up with local staff to make certain their maintenance needs are fulfilled.
o Provide weekly reports to supervisor on pending facility projects.
o Perform other tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
o Performs electrical, plumbing systems and equipment planned maintenance tasks
REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Qualifications:
o 4+ years experience in building, construction or facilities maintenance background .
o Thorough knowledge of repair, maintenance and construction techniques and of the tools, methods, practices, materials and equipment used in the building and mechanical trades.
o Working knowledge of building codes, and all other rules and regulations governing repair, and maintenance of facilities. Read schematics and blueprints, draw quick facility sketches and estimate repairs.
o Ability to problem solve facilities/maintenance issues and develop timely solutions to repair them.
o Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds when required to perform maintenance tasks.
o Strong customer focus and be able to interact with internal business clients at all organizational levels.
o Good communication and interpersonal skills.
o Must be computer literate (Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook (e-mail), Microsoft Excel, etc...)
o High school diploma or equivalent.
o Must have a valid driver's license, good driving record, and a working vehicle.
o Must have own tools and basic maintenance equipment.
o Ability to adhere to company work hours. In addition, must be available to work occasional weekends and late evenings to handle emergency repairs and/or office moves and installations.Preferred Qualifications:
o Certificate from a Trade School (in HVAC, Electrical, etc...) a plus.
o Licenses in any building trade (Including Building Operating Engineer) a plus.
