SERVICE TECHNICIAN

The Service Technician must have ability to learn to read and interpret service orders; install, test, trouble shoot and repair station lines, equipment, DSL & ISDN services; use PC to open and close work orders and track time on jobs; serve as customer contact to provide service/product information and resolve problems. Attendance, conduct and performance records will be considered in the selection process. Job bidding & selection will be administered under the guidelines of the local labor agreement with IBEW 199. JOB REQUIREMENTS


1. Successfully complete 11-week training course in the closest available area that includes basic electricity, pole climbing, installation & repair, basic transmission, DSL installation (complete class list will be provided) & demonstrate the skills on the job.

2. Ability to visually identify all colors used in telephone cable; black, blue, brown, green, orange, red, slate, violet, white, yellow.

3. Must be able to work flexible schedules; split days off, weekends, overtime, holidays and call-outs. Ability to lift and maneuver a 28 ft. extension ladder (75 lbs.) and a manhole cover (150 lbs.).

4. Valid Florida driver's license and acceptable driving record which will be verified with Florida's motor vehicle department.

5. Proven ability to resolve customer issues and problems.

6. Previous education or work experience in electronics, PC hardware/software/networking is preferred.

7. Working knowledge of Sprint products and services including DSL & ISDN is preferred.

8. Experience creating, receiving and clearing service orders is preferred.

9. Will be required to work in the elements (heat,humidity,rain); will encounter insects & wild life in or around equipment; will be required to work in close quarters (controlled environmental vault (CEV) or manhole); and must be able to perform work aloft on a pole or from a ladder.

10. Pay rate will be determined based on related experience/skills.
