IRWIN Industries has 3 openings for a Field Safety Specialist that:

Plans and implements EH&S programs and activities for a specific site or project. Conducts specified training for employees, and inspects and audits machinery, equipment, processes and working conditions to ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations and company policy. As part of the EH&S Network, the role participates in the development and continuous improvement of the overall IRWIN EH&S Program.

Essential Functions

Daily Functions:
•Assists managers and field supervisors in implementing EH&S regulations and policies.
•Educate employees to obtain compliance with regulations.
•Monitors and audits workers to determine the proper use of prescribed personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, hard hats, goggles, respirators, and fire retardant clothing. Demonstrates proper use of PPE. Enforces the use of PPE.
•Inspects machinery and equipment for accident prevention devices. Inspects specified areas for fire prevention equipment and other safety and first-aid supplies.
•Operates and maintains testing equipment for physical, health and environmental assessment. Prepares report of findings with recommendations for corrective action.
•Maintains safety and environmental permits, and other related records in accordance with legal requirements.
•Conducts field surveys and site audits on periodic and as needed basis to keep abreast of the needs of the worker level and detect code violations, hazards, and incorrect work practices and procedures. Corrects discrepancies and implements preventive measures as necessary.
•Conducts EH&S-related testing and training for employees.
•Promulgates and executes activities associated with IRWIN’s EH&S Program (i.e. IIPP, Four ACES, Codes of Safety Work Practices, Programs, etc.).
•Inspects and reviews rigging, scaffolding and trenching operation for compliance with requirements and procedures.
Periodic Functions
•Interface with regulatory agencies and the client regarding site specific EH&S matters as necessary.
•Maintain communication with Corporate EH&S relative to site EH&S issues, changes and needs.
•Investigates incidents to determine root cause and in implementing corrective actions. Compiles and submits incident reports required by company policy. Provides medical management of injured employees, including transportation to a designated medical provider for assessment and treatment.
•Recommends program improvements to prevent accidents and illness. Documents findings and code sections violated.
•Calibrates testing instruments on the project.
•Develops and monitors emergency action plans and ensures adherence to Site Specific Safety Plans.
•Participates in safety related program requirements specific to the client site and with authorization from the site superintendent.
•Seeks input from Corporate EH&S regarding interpretation of applicable laws and regulations to advise supervisors on legal requirements.
•May need to handle or come in contact with hazardous or universal wastes as assigned.

Field Safety Specialists Job Requirements:

Our Preferred Requirements: A minimum of 3-5 years successful EHS experience in industrial and construction environments. Experience with petrochemical production, power plant andlor offshore production facilities is a plus Outstanding oral and written communication skills Proactive leadership and administrative skills' Imagination and ability to develop and implement creative solutions' Sound judgment Ability to train and make effective presentations to clients, management, public groups, and employees Fundamental knowledge of OSHA requirements for industrial construction' A valid Driver's license.
