**This position can be located in any of our Savvis Facilities**

The SAVVIS Facilities Mechanical Engineer is accountable for specific data center systems and processes that are critical to the operation of the data center. Provides Mechanical engineering and technical expertise for data center operations in assigned areas.

Responsibilities include:
Provide technical expertise and engineering for assigned data center systemsEvaluate data from systems to evaluate system effectiveness and efficienciesDetermine operational parameters of systems and processesDevelop procedures and policies for system/processesDevelop contractor specifications and standardsManage contractors and work in areas assignedDevelop budget and track for areas assignedProvide technical expertise and assistance to customers in assigned areasEvaluate or design customer proposed installations for assigned areasRespond to emergent situations at data center as required

Position Objectives:
Ensures data center operates at peak efficiency and effectiveness.Ensures no unplanned outages of services to customersWorks with others in the data center teams to exceed customer expectationsImplements continuous improvements resulting in higher reliability and reduced

Essential duties:
Resolves all issues (engineering, operational, etc.) with assigned systems and processes.Determines methods, controls, and monitoring for all work performed in areas of responsibilityDevelops and evaluates risk mitigation processes for all operations in area of responsibilityDetermines all maintenance requirements for IDC equipment in area of responsibilitySelects contractors who work in IDCRecommends and evaluates capital projects for IDC

Required skills:
Strong background in mechanical engineering, design, blueprint and construction document review and preparation for data center applicationsAbility to handle multiple projects simultaneously as internal needs dictate utilizing and directing external engineering firms as necessaryMust be versed in and familiar with the new and emergent technologies employed in the latest data center designs, methodologies and technologiesStrong practical and application knowledge of engineering in a critical environmentCustomer relationship buildingTechnical understanding and communication to peers/management, with customers, and vendors.Understanding and implementation of risk mitigation processesProcedure developmentEmergency response control and commandDevelopment, control and monitoring of budgetsHVAC design and evaluation, building control and automation, airflow balance and analysis, boilers, pumps and associated equipment and systems.Strong background and knowledge in Building Automation and Control Systems, Fire Alarm and monitoring systems, Fire Suppression Systems and Fuel Systems

Desired skills:
Previous data center Mechanical design and Mechanical drawing review experiencePerform cooling system capacity calculations, develop cooling plans and budget costsTraining program development and implementationReliability Centered Maintenance analysis and implementationDemonstrable computing skills that show complex data trending / tracking and analysis.Excellent communication skills, both written and oral

Education or Equivalent Experience:

Required:
Must posses a PE license with Mechanical Engineering as major field of study5 years experience in a mission critical environments1 year supervisory or project management experience

Desired:
ME with PE licensingProfessionally Licensed Engineer in respective state2 years data center facilities experience
