JOB SUMMARY:
The Environmental, Health and Safety (EH&S) Coordinator – Pacific Division reports to the Regulatory Affairs Coordinator. During any absence of the Regulatory Affairs Coordinator, the EH&S Coordinator reports to the Director of Risk Management and Auditing. Under the guidance of the Regulatory Affairs Coordinator, the EH&S Coordinator – Pacific Division provides leadership for the Pacific Division regarding EH&S issues. The EH&S Coordinator – Pacific Division understands and carries out oral and written instructions, works independently yet is solely responsible for keeping the Regulatory Affairs Coordinator as well as the San Carlos and Seattle Plant Managers, and all Pacific Division District Store Supervisors fully and completely informed and up-to-date with all relevant and pertinent matters, and establishes and maintains cooperative working relationships on a day-to-day basis. The EH&S Coordinator – Pacific Division must be willing to travel to the Seattle Manufacturing Plant as well as Pacific Division Stores and other miscellaneous/additional travel at least 30% of the time.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Ability to administer and implement effective performance-oriented EH&S programs and improvements throughout the Pacific Division (i.e., San Carlos Manufacturing Plant, Seattle Manufacturing Plant, and Pacific Division Stores).
Interacts professionally with regulatory agencies (e.g., air quality districts, City agencies, POTW, highway patrol, fire department, hazmat agencies, etc) and is responsible for maintaining 100% compliance with all environmental, health and safety laws, rules and regulations at all times in all Pacific Division locations.
Inspects all Pacific Division locations to determine compliance with EH&S-related laws, regulations, and standards on an annual basis.
Submits all internal as well as regulatory reports before or on the date required.
Develops and maintains a regulatory calendar for the San Carlos and Seattle Manufacturing Plants on an on-going basis, and submits the calendar to the Regulatory Affairs Coordinator, Director of Risk Management and Auditing, Vice President of Manufacturing, and President on a quarterly basis on January 15, April 15, July 15, and October 15 of every year.
Synthesizes EH&S performance metrics for Pacific Division locations.
Maintains both hard copies and electronic copies of all active and historical MSDSs for all Kelly-Moore finished goods and raw materials.
Performs or coordinates personnel chemical exposure and environmental monitoring (noise monitoring etc.)
Schedule, monitor, and maintain records for annual physicals required of all current Kelly-Moore employees formerly exposed to asbestos.
Authors and ensures implementation of all EH&S programs at the San Carlos and Seattle Plants as well as all Pacific Division stores (Chemical Hygiene Plan, Safety Committees, etc.).
Stays abreast of all applicable current and forthcoming regulatory requirements.
Conducts injury/workers’ compensation trend analysis for Pacific Division locations and develop countermeasures for injury and workers’ compensation cost reductions.
In coordination with the applicable Plant Managers or District Store Supervisors, ensures effective compliance training of Pacific Division employees as well as otheremployees as needed, but no later than the date required (e.g., forklift, accident prevention, accident investigations, return to work program, etc.).
Demonstrates effectiveness at planning, organizing, controlling and directing.
Demonstrates strong, dynamic leadership.
Builds open environment of communication with supervisors and peers.
Achieves proper levels of cooperation and coordination.
Observes all safety precautions.
Fill in for the Regulatory Affairs Coordinator when needed.
Performs such other routine or non-routine tasks as may be assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful job performance. This includes knowledge of occupational hazards and standard safety precautions, which may govern normal product handling in the paint manufacturing and store operation industry. Typical qualifications would be:1.Associate or Bachelors degree in any scientific discipline. Prefer a degree(s) in quality, environmental, safety and/or occupational health.
2.Three to five years of practical work experience providing the proven skill level to perform the job duties as described.
3.Experience in conducting EH&S inspections, implementing effective accident prevention efforts, and providing EH&S training. ISO 14000 experience a plus.
4.Knowledge of EH&S-related laws, regulations, and standards.
5.Prefer professional certification or awards such as CSP, REA, CHMM, professional sequence award, etc.JOB QUALIFICATIONS:1.Professionalism, perseverance, patience and a sense of humor.
2.Ability to maintain compliance with all environmental, health and safety laws, rules and regulations at all times in all Pacific Division locations, including but not limited to submitting regulatory reports before or on the date required.
3.Ability to implement new procedures and EH&S programs effectively.
4.Ability to conduct effective training (e.g., forklift, accident prevention, quality, etc.).
5.Effective technical writing ability and proficiency in Windows-based PC applications.
6.Ability to communicate knowledge and ideas with effectiveness.
7.Demonstrate the ability to work with and for others.
8.Demonstrate the ability to adapt to changing work priorities and conditions as well as perform a range of work assignments and takes initiative to do so.
9.Is consistent, dependable and accurate in carrying out responsibilities and following through to a successful conclusion. Is able to recognize tasks of an urgent nature and is able to decide when tasks can be handled routinely and independently.
10.Refer unusual or precedent setting situations to the Regulatory Affairs Coordinator, San Carlos Plant Manager, Seattle Plant Manager or District Store Supervisor immediately as appropriate.
11.Is familiar with and adheres to all company policies and procedures.12.Is rarely absent or tardy and practices good time management.
13.Must have a “Meets Standards” or better on the most recent Performance Evaluation in current or last position.
14.Willingness to travel at least 30% of the time.
