West Anaheim Medical Center opened its doors in 1964 when its location, 3033 West Orange Ave, in Anaheim was considered far east of the city's core. Today, the area has grown tremendously and West Anaheim Medical Center is surrounded by homes and businesses, not to say the world’s most popular beach at its door step and snow capped mountains a short distance away.Patients are cared for in a variety of inpatient and outpatient settings. Our services not only focus on the treatment of existing conditions, but also on preventive medicine for the entire family.West Anaheim Medical Center is part of Vanguard Health Systems. In addition to West Anaheim Medical Center, locally Vanguard Health Systems includes La Palma Intercommunity Hospital and Huntington Beach Hospital. Vanguard Health System was founded in 1997, and currently owns and operates nine acute-care hospitals in California, Arizona and Illinois, comprising 1,875 beds. As part of this partner ship, we have adopted initiatives designed to make life healthier, simpler and less intimidating.POSITION GOALUnder general supervision, performs a variety of general cleaning tasks in maintaining patient rooms, nursing stations, public waiting areas, offices, hallways and other related duties within unit or area assigned.JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:Maintains the highest possible quality standards to ensure clean, attractive and safe environment. Demonstrates understanding of all policy and procedures concerning cleanliness. Adheres to established policy and procedures for universal precautions. Assigned area is clean and orderly. Cleaning activities are performed at appropriate times. Work assignments are completed in a timely and efficient manner. Reports to supervisor or manager any suggestions for positive changes or recommendations within the department. Willingly rotates to different areas as needed.Receives daily assignments. Selects materials, supplies, equipment and transports to work area. Begins assigned duties in a timely manner. Ensure there are adequate cleaning supplies and materials requisitioned for daily use. Cleaning supplies and equipment are placed in designated area. Cleans floors, walls, doors, door closures, ceilings, vents, window screens, window blinds, lighting fixtures, televisions, monitors, telephones, furniture, pictures, trash containers, and ash trays. Floors, walls, doors, door closures, ceilings, vents, window screens, window blinds, lighting fixtures, televisions, monitors, telephones, furniture, pictures, trash containers, and ash trays are free from soil and appropriate cleaning procedures are followed. Windows are clean and unmarred by streaking. Follows safety procedures when cleaning as described in policy and procedure. Floors and carpets are cleaned according to policy. Scours and polishes sinks, tubs, showers, wall tile, commodes, plumbing fixtures and dispensers. Cleans and polishes mirrors with specific chemicals and appropriate cleaning procedures are followed. Mirror are clean and unmarred by streaking. Replenishes supplies of soap and paper products. Paper dispensers and soap dispensers are adequately refilled. Disposal of in-room sharps containers. Sharps liners are changed when 3/4 full. Makes beds, replaces mattress inserts, hangs privacy curtain, and moves furniture. Beds are made with clean linen and in the prescribed manner. Mattress’ insert is put in place with designated foot end of insert at food end of mattress. Mattress’ insert number and date is documented. Ladder is used when hanging curtains. Soiled curtains are transported to laundry room. Request is made for help when moving heavy furniture. Gathers and removes trash. Collects soiled linen, soiled cleaning cloths and mops. Trash is deposited in proper containers for removal. Trash containers are clean and plastic liners are replaced. Soiled linen is transported to soiled linen storage room. Soiled cleaning cloths and mops are transported to the laundry room. Soiled linen/trash carts are cleaned weekly.Demonstrates knowledge and application of principles of safety, infection control, hazardous materials waste program and universal precautions, and performance improvement, information management, by completing the annual review process.EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:Previous institutional housekeeping / experience preferred. Must be able to keep up fast paced work flow. Must be able to follow written and oral instructions. Ability to learn and perform new tasks. Ability to meet deadlines. Good communication skillsPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:Position is primarily physical in nature; standing or walking 95% of the work day; lifting heavy items up to 20 pounds occasionally; ability to express or exchange ideas by means of spoken or written word; requires bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, fingering (grasping), and carrying objects; exposure to blood and other potentially infectious material is frequent; works inside; varied temperature changes; contact with water/liquids; subject to noise and vibrations; hazards include exposure to blood and body fluids, sharp objects and instruments, assorted chemicals as listed in the MSDS manual; frequent contact with fumes, odors and exposure to vapors, mists and liquids; uses personal protective equipment. In this position, occupational exposure to communicable diseases and blood/bloodborne pathogens requires the use of personal protective equipment to include gloves, gowns, goggles, masks and radiation measuring devices, when in the clinical setting.Must have institutional housekeeping experience. Must have the physical strength to be able to continueously move equipment up to 40 pounds,carry ful mop buckets from the cart to the sink in the janitors close, be customer service oriented,and be motivated to detail clean large areas throughout the hospital.
