Position
This is a full-time, permanent position for University Residences and includes a full benefits package. The position works under the direction of the Custodial Supervisor, assisted by the Lead Custodian. Custodians perform a variety of cleaning tasks in the residence halls, apartments, and dining facilities. Working independently with little or no direct supervision, the position is under the general direction of the Custodial Services Manager. The custodian works in the residential community and is frequently around residents and conference guests.
Position Summary:
Perform custodial assignments to maintain the cleanliness and care of the University Residences’ 15 residence halls, one apartment complex, and three dining centers, consistent with University, WISHA, and OSHA safety standards.
Reports To: Custodial Supervisor under coordination of Custodial Lead.
Hours Of Work: 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM. Monday - Friday. Position may be required to work weekends when necessary.
Essential Job Functions:
Disinfect, clean and sanitize public and suite restrooms, showers, and tubs.
Dust and wipe furniture, sweep, mop or vacuum floors, empty wastebaskets, trash, and recycle containers. Replace light bulbs.
Strip, clean, buff, and apply finish to floors. Use high-speed floor buffers/polishers, vacuum and clean carpets.
Use and maintain assigned power equipment and hand tools such as, vacuums, brooms, mops, squeegee, carpet extractors, water pickup machines and ladders for cleaning and general maintenance of floors, walls, carpets, lights, and furniture.
Change/make beds. Issue linen and set up and take down bunk beds.
Follow written and/or verbal instructions regarding the use of chemicals, supplies and equipment. Comply with safety policies and procedures.
Report need for repairs and/or maintenance of custodial equipment and facilities.
Move furniture, equipment, supplies and tools on an as needed basis.
Clean entrance halls, lobbies, stairs, landings, elevators, porches, patios, and sundecks.
Assist lead in ordering supplies for buildings.
Clean outside of assigned area within a close proximity.

Working Conditions, Tools and Equipment:
Duties are performed primarily in University Residences’ halls, apartments, and dinning complexes.
Work assignment may change to meet the Department's needs. Work areas are periodically changed within the department.
Typical tools/equipment used to accomplish job tasks: mops, brooms, pails, wringers, sponges, rags, spray bottles, squeegees, hand tools, ladders, vacuums, buffers water pickup machines, wet-dry vacuum, carpet extractors, and polishers.

REQUIREMENTS
Required Qualifications

Effectively follow instructions and make appropriate decisions independently.
Ability to be self-motivated and follow a high volume work routine within a specific time frame.
Ability to accurately and safely mix chemicals according to label directions.
Ability to read and follow instructions and precautions on a chemical’s Material Safety Data Sheet.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience providing custodial duties in commercial and/or institutional settings.
Knowledge of Washington Industrial Safety/ Health Act (WISHA) and Occupational Safety/ Health Administration (OSHA) regulations.
