This is a regular, full time position (working nights) in the Physical Plant of Western Oregon University in Monmouth. This is a working supervisor position.


Knowledge Areas

Custodial industry specifications and standards for supplies and equipment.
Industry processes and procedures for the proper operation of custodial equipment, cleaning practices, floor care, etc.
Ordering of custodial supplies and related products.
Knowledge of employee supervisor and program management including personnel selection and evaluation, shift scheduling, employee training, etc.
Basic knowledge of local, state and federal guidelines as they related to custodial services, such as OSHA regulations, health codes, as well as applicable Western Oregon University and Oregon University System policies and procedures.
Recycling practices.



Special Requirements

Occasionally, may be required to work an irregular schedule, in order to conduct inspections, conduct training or to meet with staff. Must be able to work with a variety of chemicals and be able to lift weights up to 50 pounds. Must maintain a valid driver’s license.



Duties and Responsibilities

Responsible for direct supervision of classified staff and student workers. Assists with the hiring of staff and resolution of personnel issues utilizing progressive discipline if necessary.
Supervises window cleaning and floor care crews, including gym floors, dance floors and stage areas.
Assesses training needs of E & G custodial staff and arranges for ongoing training. This includes training on chemical use, cleaning procedures and equipment operation to ensure efficient and safe use.
Conducts routine inspections of facilities to ensure that established custodial standards are met. Follows up on complaints to ensure corrective action is promptly taken.
Tracks supplies inventory and orders items as necessary.
Fills in for custodians when crew is shorthanded.
Assists Director of Physical Plant in the preparation of the annual custodial operating budget and continually monitors expenditures.
Attends meetings and participates in committees as appropriate.
