Associate Operations Electrical Engineer
Summary of Responsibilities
Works closely with Operations Engineers to provide technical operations support to System Operations personnel, including the use of advanced applications, including State Estimation, Security Analysis, Contingency Analysis, Real-Time and Study mode Operations Power Flow, Voltage Stability Analysis (VSA), Dynamic Stability Analysis (DSA), and Energy and Market Management Systems (EMMS) applications. Work closely with the Shift Supervisors and System Operators assigned to each functional desk to ensure technical content of operations activities and procedures. Coordinate and interface with other ERCOT team members, including Client Services, Registration, Metering, Load Profiling, Market Operations Support, Outage Coordination, IT EMMS, System Planning, and ERCOT Compliance.
Essential Job Functions
Work as a team member to meet operational needs, including control room support, network modeling, network application development, and intra-ERCOT coordination with Market Operations Support, System Planning, Registration, Client Services, Load Profiling, and IT EMMS
Work as a team member to evaluate and recommend guidelines and operating procedures
Conduct independent engineering studies, including power flow and stability studies
Provide appropriate data to IT EMMS, System Planning, System Operations, and other ERCOT groups
Provide routine operations reports
Provide Operations Engineering support for the Outage Coordination group
Formulate recommendations for software enhancement and improvement of operational study accuracy (under direction of Operations Engineers)
Formulate recommendations for changes to Operating Procedures (under direction of Operations Engineers)
Support ERCOT by working with various ERCOT Subcommittees, Working Groups, and Task Forces
REQUIREMENTS
Experience and Educational Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field. An equivalent mix of education, training, and experience may be considered.
Experience in the use of, development of, and maintenance of power system network models is desired.
Must be a eligible to become a registered Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the State of Texas
Experience with EMS (or EMMS), database (such as Access or Oracle), and power system analysis tools is preferred
Experience with outage coordination is preferred
