Ammonia Refrigeration Technician

Schwan's Global Supply Chain, Inc., a subsidiary of The Schwan Food Company operates a production facility in Spartanburg, SC that manufactures frozen pies, cakes, muffins and other frozen dessert under the Mrs. Smith'sŪ brand. We are currently seeking Ammonia Refrigeration Technicians for both 2nd & 3rd Shift.

GENERAL PURPOSE
This position is responsible for performing refrigeration and general maintenance.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Checks air-conditioning and refrigeration compressors, evaporators, and condensers for proper lubrication, coolant level, and operation.
Cleans evaporators and condensers, as required, to insure free exchange of air-flow.
Checks dehumidifiers and air compressor's operation and safety pop-off valves.
Checks evaporative coils for free air-flow, as required.
Repairs malfunctions on compressors and does complete major overhauls, as required.
Installs and replaces motors, pumps, switches, safety controls, solenoids, and fuses at all refrigeration areas.
Inspects REM. evaporative coils daily for correct operation of fans and glycol pumps.
Checks Freon refrigeration units daily for coolant and oil level, proper air flow, and proper defrost cycles.
Repairs and replaces improper fittings and broken refrigeration pipes.
Checks glycol filters in freezers.
Checks concentrator liquid percentage and filters (3 times daily).
Insures proper operation of exhaust fans.
Inspects Kramer and Krack units for proper operation.
Checks and assists in the ordering of refrigeration parts.
Drains oil pots weekly.
Keeps all written refrigeration records up-to-date.
Assists in checking and replacing filters in units on roof.
Maintains and checks boilers for proper operation and proper water treatment levels.
Keeps areas in compressor rooms and pits cleaned up.
Performs duties necessary to insure that plant equipment operates continuously and effectively.
Provides preventive maintenance on equipment replacement of parts.
May perform various duties related to the construction of additional plant facilities, usually refrigeration.
Performs similar and related duties required to maintain the condition of buildings and equipment.
Notifies lead or supervisor of refrigeration or related problems, as required.
Performs all duties in accordance with USDA, company policy and established procedures.
Provides required list of tools at personal expense.
Maintains clean work area.
Performs other work, as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
QUALIFICATIONS
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
Years of Related Experience: Three years or more related experience on ammonia refrigeration systems.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Must have mechanical ability sufficient to perform job functions.
Must have related refrigeration maintenance experience.
Must have sufficient mechanical knowledge.
Education and experience in refrigeration/ammonia operations preferred.
Complete all respirator/confined space related training requirements.
