VP, Group Underwriting

This position provides strategic leadership and management for the Group Underwriting department. It is the responsibility of this position to ensure that risk and pricing decisions are made in accordance with actuarial standards with the express goal of meeting the division's profitability and production goals. This individual is also responsible for ensuring that the Group Underwriting department performs efficiently within agreed upon service standards and turn around times. This individual has regular interaction with the sales team and regularly communicates with the sales field, the underwriting team and senior management. This individual provides leadership/sponsorship over process improvement initiatives and/or special projects.
REQUIREMENTS
This position requires significant experience in underwriting group life and disability products in all size categories, along with experience in managing an Underwriting operation. This individual must have strong written and verbal communication skills, analytical skills, and possess a process orientation. This individual must be effective at presenting information and influencing at all levels of the organization. The person must have a sense of urgency, the ability to work in a team environment, and the ability to understand the financial implications of underwriting decisions. Candidates should possess a bachelor's degree preferably in finance or risk management, along with FLMI and CLU designations.
