VICE PRESIDENT-COMPETITIVENESSbJob OverviewThe position is responsible for the planning and successful implementation of GPEC's strategic initiatives. These initiatives will further the mission of attracting quality businesses to the Greater Phoenix region from around the world and advocating and championing foundational efforts to improve the region's competitiveness. The incumbent must be able to lead/facilitate/ coordinate a network of economic development professionals, board leadership, private-sector investors and government officials operating at the state, county and municipal levels./b
Job Responsibilities-Work closely with the President/CEO to ensure the goals and objectives of GPEC for improving the region's competitiveness are carried out.-Lead the Research and Strategic Planning teams in 'best practices' research development.
-Coordinate and facilitate the Leadership Councils in focusing their attention to achieving GPEC organizational goals.-Execute targeted strategic initiatives to develop an effective economic toolkit for greater Phoenix and the State of Arizona, including:
-Developing and managing research and economic modeling to determine the optimal policy mix for Arizona-Assisting in the formulation and implementation of new and innovative economic development tools and programs, and-Evaluating best practices and collaborate with economic development partners to recommend new economic and financial tools that will allow the region to effectively compete for high-impact, high-wage projects.-Establish public policy positions ranging from education to ballot initiatives to global issues that effect economic development;
-Embody the principles of the organization, both internally with staff and externally, in dealings with other organizations and the Board;




Minimum Qualifications-Bachelor's Degree in Political Science, Economics, Business Administration, or other related field. Masters degree preferred.-10+ years comprehensive knowledge of commercial real estate, public policy, or economic development preferred.
-Proven leadership and managerial skills in building a dynamic team.
-Ability to develop significant relationships with public and private partners.
-Critical problem solving and creative thinking a must.-Outstanding verbal and interpersonal relations skills with the ability to communicate complex issues in a clear and concise manner.-Having exceptional organizational skills, be team oriented and versatile with project work.
Physical/Mental DemandsThe individual is regularly required to speak and hear, use a telephone, read and interpret data, analyze & solve complex problems, perform work under changing, intensive deadlines on multiple concurrent tasks; sufficient body flexibility & personal mobility which permits working in an office setting; individual may be required to travel within the area, within the USA & occasionally internationally.
