SCOPE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position directs the surgical services of the hospital, which include Operating Room services, Ambulatory surgical services, and surgical support/sterile processing.
• In collaboration with other leaders, staff, and physicians, determines the appropriate delivery of care model(s) for patient care services.
• Supervises the implementation and evaluation of safe, therapeutic and cost- effective patient care practices.
• Assures that the departmental Performance Improvement program(s) meet the hospital, external accreditation, regulatory and licensing requirements.
• Actively participates in and leads multi performance improvement process teams to facilitate continuous process improvement and facilitate intra and inter unit/department problem solving and planning.
• Collaborates with Human Resources for recruitment, selection or retention of staff for assigned departments and/or services, to assure sufficient effective human resources.
• Uses leadership skills to promote and maintain a service-oriented environment.
• Develops a financial management plan for the department including operational, supply and capital budgets.
• In conjunction with team members, supervises the use of staff, materials and supplies to comply with budget.
• In conjunction with team members, communicates fiscal expectations for the department and hospital (including monthly and annual goals, updates on department performance, variances and necessary fiscal adjustments) to managers, staff and physicians.
• Establishes and maintains effective working relationships and open communication with key personnel (e.g., peers, staff, physicians, medical directors, unit services, personnel, hospital managers, etc.).
• Role models and promotes positive communication with all internal and external customers.
• Participates in policy, procedure, and strategic planning development, administration, and evaluation.
• Integrates the hospital's philosophy, mission, goals, and strategic direction into plans and programs for the department and/or services.
• Establishes effective working relationships with key service physicians and medical directors.
• Acts as a mentor for Department Managers in the development of collaborative relationships with the medical staff.
REQUIREMENTS
Director of Surgical Services

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

• Three years of practice as a clinical nurse.
• Five years of leadership experience as a Director of patient care areas.
• Significant related experience may be considered in lieu of above requirements.


EDUCATION:

• Registered Nurse with current licensure in the State of Ohio.
• BSN required. Masters preferred.
