Detention Officer

This is an entry-level position with the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office involving the care, safety, order and discipline of a large inmate population. Officers will be assigned to detention centers where they will work 86 hours every pay period. Duties include: control, counseling, inmate training, health care assessments, and transporting of inmates within the confines of the unit. Positions also require ability to deal with wide variety of persons in the most challenging environments and situations; the ability to acclimate to an environment of advancing technology with automated controls supported by computer software that requires computer literacy; and ability to meet training and testing performance levels mandated by the NC Sheriffs' Ed. & Trng. Stds. Commission for Jail Justice Officers. Rotating shift work is required.

REQUIREMENTS
Have a High School diploma or GED
Be at least 21 years old
Have a valid drivers license
Be a United States Citizen
Be of good moral character
Meet a physical fitness requirement
