The Department of Community and Preventive Care Services provides a professional hands-on experience in health promotion programming for employees, patients and the community. The intern’s role includes participation in a variety of department activities which may be program planning and design based on needs assessment; program implementation; public speaking; development of promotional and educational materials; evaluation and data analysis; potential involvement in research projects or pilots. Topic areas include smoking cessation, physical activity, stress management, healthy aging, safe/healthy child, alcohol and other drug abuse prevention and designated community integration projects of written education and promotion. Each internship experience is tailored to meet the interests of the interns in conjunction with the current activities of the department. Internships are available to students currently enrolled in a bachelors or masters degree program requiring a facility-based preceptorship or internship placement.Education/Learning Experience:
Required: Must be enrolled in bachelors or masters degree program requiring site placement for internship.Work Experience:
Desired: Previous experience in health and/or human services functioning as employee or volunteer.Skills/Knowledge:
Required: Computer skills including word, excel and lotus notes; must be able to work fairly independently and be able to easily adjust from one task to another.Licenses/Certifications:
Desired: CPR certification.
