We currently seek a UNIX Engineering Support Manager to join our highly talented team to guide a technical team of individuals toward company goals and help shape technical proficiency in support of the management staff. This person is expected to identify and leverage synergies across the various Unix teams and technologies to build enterprise systems/solutions, deliver services and systems to support the business with an eye toward efficiency, producing an environment of declining costs and increasing service levels. Ability to build high performance geographically diverse team and influence, drive consensus and build trust will be critical. This is a great opportunity to work with the latest UNIX technology from HP and IBM and Linux technology.
This person should have the ability to design, engineering the solutions and execution working closely with CTO?s, customers and Unix engineers/technical leads. This person needs to work with vendors and establish relationships to strengthen the current infrastructure through monthly service quality reviews and looking at future business needs by bringing new Unix infrastructure capabilities. Have the ability to lead, develop strategy/vision and sell it to the senior management. Provide financial management through developing Total cost of ownership (TCO), monthly forecasting and developing multi-year strategy plans. This person must have excellent skills in building working relationships with customers, peers and vendors. Have experience with Installation, administration, monitoring and triage of all UNIX server software and hardware products and the ability to maintain and assess all components necessary for server security management. Interface with business units other technology teams and report on performance levels of established SLAs for all applications.
REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Requirements/ Key Responsibility:
College degree. Minimum of 10+ years IT experience. Minimum of 8+ years hands-on experience of combined HP-UX and AIX administration including implementation, performance tuning, troubleshooting, patching, upgrading, and migration. Possess and have the ability to apply best practices for reliable and verifiable operation of UNIX environment.
Key responsibilities include:
The UNIX Engineering support group consists of 10+ staff including both employees and contractors and supports more than 900 UNIX and Linux servers.
Ability to provide Strategy and Vision for the UNIX Team
Financial Management and Customer Management
Management of personnel administrating the enterprise UNIX systems, leadership, coaching and mentoring the UNIX staff, including performance reviews and compensation
discussions.
Cascade company messages, decisions, changes, concerns, compliments & other relevant Communicate designs, changes and other relevant information on a timely basis.
Demonstrates a customer-centric approach to day to execution of tasks.
Demonstrate strong inter team relations with solid communication and partnership when interdependencies exist
Organizing and managing the production support of the UNIX and Linux server
environment.
Liaising with other Information Technology teams (including Architecture, Engineering, Security, Storage, Network, and Operations) on strategic initiatives and/or issues
Ensuring strategic UNIX server-related projects are planned an implemented efficiently.
Preparing and proposing the annual budget for the UNIX server environment.
Presentation of strategic projects to senior management.
Set priorities for the Engineering Support team to ensure task completion
Effectively coach and support team members through ongoing performance assessment, training opportunities, and project assignment to maximize skill set and job satisfaction and performance.
Follow established standards and processes ensuring the highest uptime and performance
Support ongoing growth through development of effective solutions that scale, optimize the client experience.
Define, manage and continually tune operational and reliability metrics, SLA, operational efficiency, scheduled and unscheduled outages, and ticket closer rates.
Define and enhance Standard Operating Procedures and the Operation Model
Monitor performance of the UNIX and Linux systems to ensure that we are ahead of the capacity curve and ensure that our systems keep up with our rapid rate of growth.
Assess and develop long-term strategic goals for production engineering server environments in conjunction with data owners and department managers.
Maintain a technical knowledge of the functionality of existing platforms and applications
Proactively work towards the quick resolution of issues across cross- functional work groups and divisions
Maintain current and future knowledge of technology trends and enhancements.
Assist with evaluating trends in system performance to determine need for change.
Manage conflict with Engineers and client and escalate when appropriate
Ability to manage multiple UNIX Engineering Support and Infractructure Projects
Identify growth trends in the UNIX Environment and areas of consolidation
Managed Capaticity Planning and Performance Tunning on UNIX
Work withclient to gather UNIX requirements and able to identify the required resources
Manage the 7x24 on-call support rotation and escalation processes.
Work closely with other engineers and operations staff to resolve real-time issue
Support new technology implementations.
Contribute to the analysis, design and build of new/existing servers within the UNIX and Linux environments
Recommend and implement policies and procedures on system deployment, use and services.
Recommned and implement effective server security and control structures for hosted products and environments.
Work closely with various groups to ensure that computing services are met.
Perform Management of day to day UNIX System Administration activities
Keeps abreast of new technologies to provide additional services
Technical Requirements:
10 years high level experience administering HP-UX and AIX Operating System environment on midrange and high end servers in a multi-platform environment.
3 years experience administering LINUX Operating System environment in a multi-platform environment.
5 years experience HP-UX partitioning
5 years experience HPUX Performance Monitoring and Tunning
5 years experience in Capacity Planning
10 years experience with UNIX shell programming/scripting
5 years experience with writing programs in Perl and C
5 years experience with Software Raid tools - Veritas Foundation Suite
5 years experience with HP ServiceGuard or Veritas VCS/CFS administration
Experience in ITIL, ITSM , SOX and CMMI is required
Experience in Veritas Volume Replicator is a plus
Experience in SAN Storage and Veritas Netbackup is a plus
