UNIX Engineer/Systems Administrator
Purpose: Our client is in need of a Software Configuration Management (SCM) Engineer/System Administrator. This individual will be responsible for establishing our clients? processes and procedures and maintaining all configurable items across the entire online application environment.
This position requires a person who is a strong leader, has an incredible orientation to detail and a willingness to become hands on if needed to get the job done. In addition to building a world class SCM environment, the SCM Engineer will be a key player in supporting web application development and release management processes across the team. He/she will have deep experience with the latest SCM and management tools.
Candidate will also be responsible for: Tier 3 troubleshooting of UNIX server operating systems, hardware, and supported services and applications, routine systems monitoring, administration, adjustments and upgrades to UNIX servers, producing and maintaining system documentation throughout the asset lifecycle, diagnosing and performance tuning systems on an ongoing basis, maintaining and implementing OS upgrades and security patches, implementing monitoring tools to maintain real time and historical reporting on server metrics, supporting Backup and Recovery systems and Disaster Preparedness environment, complying with defined change control process, evaluating, recommending, and/or implementing new technology and providing accurate and timely documentation of work progress.
On a day to day basis this individual would be performing as tier 3 Solaris 9/10 system administration and support; Developing tools that improve the product engineering life cycle; Participating in the planning, scheduling and execution of the product development life cycle; Working closely with development teams on software releases and build/configuration issues; Working closely with Q/A teams to define interactions with the bug-tracking database and development processes; Creating and implementing standards for the development process and managing tools such as CVS and automated build scripts; and Performing database loads, backups, restores and written queries.
The successful candidate MUST possess:
* 3+ years experience in software engineering;
* Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or similar area;
* 2+ years script writing (Perl, Bash, UNIX Shell Scripting, Windows Scripting, etc.);
* Experience with deployment of applications to major application server platforms;
* Experience with Linux and Windows operating systems and system build automation;
* Experience with UNIX and NT system administration;
* Experience with CVS or any other source code control management tool;
* Experience with Apache, HTTP, Java,
* Experience with software installer programs;
* Understanding of relational databases and SQL;
* Proven history of working independently and within a team;
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills; and
* Results-oriented personality with a proven track record for producing work estimates and schedules that are met consistently.
