Thermal Systems Research & Development Engineer

Position Summary:
Work as a member of the Tyler Residential Systems Advanced Technology Team to develop new technologies for residential air conditioners, heat pumps, furnaces, and IAQ products. Specific responsibilities include both theoretical and experimental studies to aid in technology improvements to existing systems and components as well as the development of new technologies. System simulation development and improvements will be a big part of this position.
Major responsibilities:
Thermal systems analysis (vapor compression cycles, thermodynamics, psychrometrics, heat transfer, and fluid flow).
Experimental studies to be designed and conducted in the laboratory.Support of other Trane functions (design engineering, marketing, field operations, etc.).Stay abreast of externally developed technology and industry trends.Key Competencies:
Understanding of air conditioning and refrigeration systems and processes.Solid background in thermodynamics, psychrometrics, heat and mass transfer, fluid mechanics, and numerical methods.Computer programming skills (FORTRAN, C++, EES, Labview, etc.).Good problem solving skills.Good verbal and written communication skills.Conflict management skills.Results oriented with emphasis on achieving overall team performance
REQUIREMENTS
Education/Experience:Masters degree in mechanical engineering or related field - Ph. D. preferred.
Graduate work in thermal sciences area (refrigeration systems desirable).
HVAC experience preferred.
