Systems Engineer Principal
Standard Job Description: Performs technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems. Analyses are performed at all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal. Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints. Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.
Typical Minimums: Bachelors degree in an engineering/technical discipline from an accredited college in a related discipline, or equivalent experience/combined education, with 20 years or more of professional experience; or 18 years with a related Masters, or 15 years with a related PhD degree. Viewed as the most senior authority in discipline.
Specific Job Description: Principal Systems Engineer with extensive Systems Engineering (SE), DoD Architecture Framework (DoDAF) and Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) background and knowledge to support the LM IS&S Tactical ISR (TISR) Director's Mission Area and ISR Ground Director's business areas. Successful candidate will be Key member of the TISR Director's Advanced Technology Group (ATG). Provides technical strategic planning, overall technical support and expertise. Considered and recognized as a knowledge warehouse and technical expert; briefs senior level customers and LM Directors & VPs, acts as senior SOA architect across programs. Exhibits an exceptional degree of ingenuity, creativity, and resourcefulness. Applies and/or develops highly advanced technical technologies, scientific principles, theories and concepts. Takes on the role of Capture/Proposal Manager for new business pursuits. Promotes technology investments and sharing across the organization including IRAD coordination across the Mission Area and across the corporation. Deep knowledge of Distributed Common Ground Surface/Systems (DCGS), DODAF methodology and SOA technologies. Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) Operational knowledge is a plus. Knowledge of DCGS customers, users, and contractors is a plus. Candidates should also possess characteristics that promote effective executive level communication (internal and external customers), and dynamic consensus building. Candidates should have prior business strategy development experience, and have been directly involved in the successful pursuit, capture, implementation and deployment of large and complex software based systems. Candidates should be execution detail focused, have strong leadership and planning skills and possess a strong knowledge of the Systems Engineering discipline. Candidates should be well versed in standard engineering methodology (particularly DODAF) that applies model based approaches to implement the Systems level requirements analysis, design, allocation & verification/validation activities. Possess a strong background in application engineering. Working knowledge of .NET, J2EE, JBOSS, Service Oriented Architecture (SOA), XML standards, tools, & technologies. Knowledge of Universal Description, Discovery & Integration (UDDI) technology & naming services such as DNS. Working knowledge of Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) & MS Active Directory architecture. Knowledge of Single Sign on & reduced sign on methodology. Have demonstrated knowledge & ability to build/assemble secure systems. Working knowledge of DMZ /extranet design. Experience with firewall, and firewall appliances. Have the knowledge of secure networks design using security (layer 3) such as Internet Protocol Security (IPsec) & Transport Layer Security (layer 4) such as SSL, TLS specifications. Demonstrated knowledge of Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) policy & standards for interoperability of digital signatures & procedures for certificates. A strong background & working knowledge in HW infrastructure. Experience working and managing large IRAD/CRAD projects and collaborating across the enterprise to leverage technology and resources. Working knowledge of Storage Architecture such as DAS, NAS, & SAN; and a working knowledge of DBMS architecture to include Oracle, SQLServer, DB2, Sybase & other DBMS systems. Candidates will be required to perform in a dynamic multi-contractor team environment, and must be able to multi-task efficiently and effectively. Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Travel is required approximately on a monthly basis.
