Full Job Title: Systems Engineer 5, Wideband Networking Waveform - Lead Skills Management Title Systems EngineeringJob Level: EXEMPTBusiness Component: Integrated Defense Systems (IDS)Job Description: Systems engineer for the Wideband Networking Waveform (WNW) IPT of the JTRS Ground Mobile Radio (GMR) Program developing the next generation radio system for the US Military and integrating various legacy systems into the WNW. The selected candidate will lead the WNW Subnetwork Team and rapidly gain expertise in overall WNW concepts, protocols, and the impact and interaction of physical layer design on the overall WNW development. Participate in all phases of development from systems engineering requirements definition, integration and analysis, to software development, integration, test and verification and validation, peer reviews and sell-off. These responsibilities may include selection and implementation of new WNW physical layer technologies, design of new network protocols, system/hardware/software trade studies, evaluating new security schemes, and generating and modifying specifications. Position also requires ability to support the preparation of Request for Proposal (RFPs) governing the development of a waveform for the WNW environment, managing awarded subcontracts in technical scope, schedule and cost, and interfacing with other team members and technical staff to define and implement engineering solutions to meet group, organization, and company objectives. Ability to work in a multi-contractor, Boeing led, team environment, coordinating activities within the WNW IPT and across program IPTs (Software, Hardware, Systems and Integration, Test and Evaluation) is required. Candidate must be motivated and adapt well to a fast-paced and quickly changing environment. Candidate will be an active participant in customer briefings, internal team and management meetings/briefings (status, technical performance, cost/schedule performance). Selected candidate must meet eligibility requirements for a Secret Security Clearance, active Secret clearance preferred. Travel will be required to interface with customers and teammates. Competencies Strong systems and mobile ad hoc networking background is required. Knowledge of wireless communication theory, wireless multiple access techniques, ad hoc routing protocols, and OPNET modeling experience is preferred. Must have broad and in-depth understanding/experience in the physical layer aspects of communications networks with emphasis on waveform (WF) selection and corresponding modem design and development. Applicant should have strong expertise and practical development experience in state-of-the art WF and modem techniques including: single and multi-carrier modulation (such as OFDM); forward error correction techniques including Reed-Solomon, convolutional/Viterbi, TCM/BICM, and iterative decoding (Turbo, Turbo-Like, and LDPC codes); wireless MIMO techniques (space-time coding); channel modeling and equalization of time/frequency dispersive channels; spread-spectrum and Anti-Jam techniques; multiple access technologies (CDMA/TDMA/FDMA); time and frequency synchronization; simulation and analysis of communication systems; digital signal processing (DSP) techniques for modem implementation; system and subsystem level test-plan development and test support and analysis. Knowledge of RF and power amplifier design is preferred and understanding of broadband networks and mobile ad-hoc networks (MANETs). The position requires strong coordination, organization, teaming and communication abilities along with horizontal integration skills. Understanding of specification trees and requirements flow down process is required. Familiarity with DOORS and experience with military tactical radio systems is preferred. Familiarity with risk management procedures and associated tools, earned value management systems and project scheduling is expected. Candidate will be expected to evaluate and make recommendations for trade studies, analyses, simulations, development and test activities, and work distribution given schedule and cost constraints. Typically persons in this position would possess 18 years of applicable experience and a minimum of 7 years of lead experience.Notes: CS330338 The Boeing Company recently announced that their facility located in Anaheim, California, will be closed by 2010 and all jobs will be relocated with the majority moving to the Huntington Beach, California, facility.
