Switch Engineer- Telephony

We have an immediate opportunity for an Switch Engineer, with strong voice networking and telephony experience, to work for a large cable company in Philadelphia, PA.

The candidates will be responsible for the following:
•Interface with market Business Units and National IP Engineering to gather and define market level design requirements
•Create high level market CO Soft Switch designs
•Interface with System Integrators to gather market details to refine CO designs
•Interface with external organizations to further define market design needs such as network interconnectivity, IP routing requirements, feature needs, etc.
•Create market-level Bill of Materials and submit purchase requests to secure vendor equipment
•Interface with National IP Engineering and System Integrators to create IP Interconnectivity matrices and Dialing Plan translations
•Provide technical expertise to support market turn-ups
•Analyze subscriber and call volume trends and identify and design future switch capacity needs
•Take lead role as assigned on various interdepartmental projects
•Design, conduct, and interpret database and switch translations
•Deploy and maintain commercial turn-up of new features and technologies
•Serve as escalation point for field deployment technical issues

REQUIRED SKILLS:
•Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related technical field; the equivalent in work experience and self study may be substituted.
•3-5 years experience in telephony, voice networking, circuit switch engineering, and/or SS7 and ancillary equipment such as DACs, Voice Messaging Platforms, etc
•Demonstrated engineering experience with dial plans, translations, capacity, and/or CO complexes
•Experience mapping business requirements to technology capabilities, identifying gaps and omissions, and designing end-to-end solutions
•Demonstrated initiative to build relationships both internally and externally with minimal supervision/direction from management
•Clear and effective verbal and written communications skills
•Strong interpersonal skills; capable of writing recommendations, RFP’s, and interacting with company personnel on complex topics; make presentations to an internal audience and interacting positively with senior management.
•Must have strong, independent problem solving skills; must be self-directed
•Broad knowledge of Cisco routers and switches (3550,6509/7609,12000,etc) and a range of CMTS (Cisco UBR, Arris C4, and Motorola BSR) is a plus
•Experience in design, testing, and planning for QoS and distributed server infrastructure in support of High Speed Data and VoIP services is a plus.
•An understanding of IP Security concepts including well-known services, ports, and protocols is a plus
