Sustaining Engineer Consultant
The responsibilities for this position include working in the desktop platform sustaining engineering organization responsible for the engineering support of released products through product end of life (EOL). This includes platform level engineering ownership for feature enhancements (design changes, new CPU qualifications, etc.), quality improvements, technical field issue escalations (root cause, corrective action) and cost reductions.
•Evaluate and qualify/test new components
•Evaluate requested component changes through specification review and testing.
•Review and approve Vendor ECN: Receive ECN from supplier. Review and communicate issues to supplier.
•Assist factory and quality personnel in determining cause of failures, and monitor for failure trends.
•Conduct Root Cause Analysis on reported failures. Drive the results through the appropriate team in Dell to prevent future occurrences (PRP).
•Analyze customer issues as escalated through the PTR process to determine root cause.
•Work with suppliers to identify the fix for the reported failure.
•Determine corrective actions (design change or vendor correction) for hardware-caused issues.
•Write a test plan and conduct the testing to ensure the quality of the identified fix.
•Assist Project Planners in implementation and configuration of corrective actions.
•Drive the implementation of the fix through Dell process, and release it to the field.
•Recommend changes for software and BIOS-caused issues.
•Provide feedback to design teams on lesson learned from product issues.
•Participate in design reviews for new products.
Desirable candidates possess a BSEE with minimum 6 years relevant experience or MSEE with minimum 4 years relevant experience.
•Mechanical aptitude for interpretation of mechanical drawing specifications.
•Versed in use of MS-Word Processor, MS-Outlook, MS-Power Point, MS-Excel.
•Versed in use of Part Number and BOM Databases.
•Detail-oriented with attention to product quality.
•Proficient math skills.
•Ability to work under date-driven schedules.

•Advanced understanding of hardware and software interactions; able to apply this understanding to resolve issues.
•Advanced understanding of how to debug electrical models and interpret results.

REQUIREMENTS
BSEE with 5 years experience or MSEE with 3 years experience.
