Sustaining Engineer

C&D Technologies, Inc. is a publicly held, global, high-tech manufacturer that produces and markets systems for the power conversion and storage of electrical power, including industrial batteries and electronics. We currently have an opening in our Power Electronics Division for a Sustaining Engineer based in Tucson, Arizona.

Utilize engineering knowledge to research and resolve product problems, cost reduction efforts, and component non-conformity in coordination with production and management. Make customer requested modification and/or extend the life of the product to make certain C&D stays competitive.

Specific Responsibilities:
a. Evaluate customer complaints; Test, document, and recommend improvements.
b. Create and update documentation which defines products, including drawings, specifications, and BOM’s in accordance with
company standard practices and proper engineering techniques.
c. Evaluate and provide resolution to problems identified by the Engineering Change Request (ECR) request.
d. Evalute assembly lines to look for methods of improving quality and reducing labor.
e. Review new product for Manufacturability and cost reduction.
f. Provide technical assistance to production, as needed.
g. Keep abreast of technical developments.

REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Qualifications (education, skills, knowledge, experience, etc.)
a.Knowledge and skills, including, as appropriate, education, certification, experience, and demonstrated technical knowledge:
-Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
-Basic understanding of analog and digital circuitry
-Knowledge of industrial standards (UL,CSA,VDE,TUV etc.)
-Experience with troubleshooting AC-DC power supplies and DC-DC converters.
-Knowledge of MRP systems (MAPICS)
-Knowledge of Microsoft Office software (Excel, Word, Access)
-Basic mechanical engineering skills
-Strong written and verbal communication skills.

b.Physical requirements/working conditions:
-Ability to maneuver throughout the manufacturing plant and climb five steps onto raised work platforms in order to perform product training and technical inspections
-Ability to operate basic hand tools including soldering irons, screw drivers, torque wrenches, etc.
-Good visual and color perception for evaluation of cosmetic blemishes
-Some travel to customer sites, production facilities, and vendors
-Medium weight lifting capabilities
