Supervisor - Engineering Services

This is work supervising a section level professional engineering function which requires the direction of professional engineering personnel or consultants engaged in the design, construction, or other engineering functions associated with development or operation of public works projects, or regulation of similar private projects.

SPECIAL NOTE: This business center is looking to fill two (2) vacancies.

TYPES OF DUTIES:
*Plans, organizes, directs and reviews the work of engineering groups or consultants in the operation, design or construction of all types of public works projects, such as transportation systems, traffic engineering/operations, stormwater/water/sewer improvements and related structures and improvements.
*Prepares and documents budget requests; administers adopted budget in assigned area of responsibility.
*Provides project management for the construction of public works projects. *Oversees assigned projects to ensure contractor compliance with schedule, quality and budget parameters for the project.
*Coordinates planning and design with other governmental agencies.
*Prepares and reviews correspondence, reports, and studies.
*Determines work procedures, prepares work schedules, and expedites work flow.
*Participates in the administration, direction, and coordination of field surveying, mapping, contract development, office engineering, and the maintenance of records.
*Establishes design criteria and makes decisions on design features.
*Ensures technical competence and compliance with all current codes and criteria.
*Reviews progress of work and finished projects.
*Prepares and reviews invitations to bid and analyzes bids.
*Reviews plans and specifications prepared under contract and administers construction contracts.
*Responds to public or other inquiries relative to engineering policies and procedures on specific projects and other information.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
*Knowledge of concepts, terminology, principles and analytical techniques of civil engineering.
*Knowledge of engineering design, construction, production and/or operations.
*Knowledge of applicable County policies, laws, and regulations affecting engineering activities.
*Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with employees, consultants, other governmental agency representatives, County officials and the general public.
*Ability to conduct necessary engineering research and compile comprehensive reports.
*Ability to analyze and interpret engineering data.
*Ability to solve problems relating to engineering.
*Ability to perform engineering inspections.
*Ability to apply engineering quantitative techniques.
*Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
*Ability to communicate engineering information effectively verbally and in writing.
*Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
*Skill in arriving at cost estimates on complex projects.
*Skill in using engineering tools, equipment and/or instruments.
REQUIREMENTS
A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Civil Engineering, AND six years of professional engineering experience, two years of which must have been in a supervisory capacity. -----OR-----2. A Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in Civil Engineering, AND five years of professional engineering experience, two years of which must have been in a supervisory capacity.

Registration in the State of Florida as a Professional Engineer.

A valid license to practice engineering issued by another state or territory of the United States and have the ability to become registered in the State of Florida within six months of employment.
