The industry leading position of our fixed cutter bits is built on the performance of their polycrystalline diamond compact (PDC) cutters. We have an opening for a Senior Engineer in the Diamond Research Group in our Research Department, based in The Woodlands, Texas, USA, whose work will help us ensure the cutters we use continue to be the best in the industry.




Education: Qualified candidates will possess a PHD in Materials Science, Metallurgy, Ceramics, or Mechanical Engineering with experience in fracture mechanics of hard materials, preferably polycrystalline diamond or related superabrasive materials. Will consider a highly qualified engineer with a Masters and direct industry experience in failure analysis and fracture mechanics of polycrystalline diamond compact (PDC) cutters.





Knowledge and Experience: Will possess a a good understanding the fracture mechanisms, fracture mechanics and failure analysis of hard materials. Preference for graduate level experience with and knowledge of analysis of PDC cutters and related materials. Knowledgeable in Abacus FEA modeling software, solid modeling, and laboratory equipment used in failure analysis. Must have ggood analytical, problem identification and problem solving skills abilities, as well as good written and verbal communication skills. Must have ability to work in a team oriented environment.





Responsibilities: Conducting fundamental and applied research with the objectives of developing and qualifying new PDC cutters for oilfield drill bits. Will participate in analysis of new technology as it applies to PDC products used in drilling oil and gas wells. Will conduct analysis of components from field run bits and components tested in the laboratory. Will assist in development of appropriate laboratory testing apparatus and test protocols. Will prepare reports and presentations for project reviews with team members and management. Should be comfortable dealing with subordinates, peers, and senior management. Some international travel required.
