Stress/Structural and Applied Mechanics Engineer - Senior
Business Unit: GE Infrastructure, EnergyFunction: Engineering/ Product DevelopmentResponsibilities: Perform structural/stress analysis, and related tasks required to demonstrate structural design adequacy of nuclear power plant reactor internal components and substructures.
Qualify components and structures subjected to various operating/loading conditions including static, thermal, seismic/dynamic time history and response spectra loads, and hydrodynamic and thermal transients.
The position involves technical ownership, problem-solving skills, supporting resolution of emergent issues, and working in a team environment, interfacing with multiple disciplines such as performance services, testing, and design groups.
Interact with project managers, customers, and regulatory agencies.
Support and comply with GE-Nuclear Energy Quality and compliance requirements defined in policies and procedures.
Six Sigma Green Belt certification (GE Employees Only).
REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications: M.S. or Ph.D. in Mechanical or Structural Engineering, with emphasis on Stress/Structural Analysis and Engineering Applied Mechanics.
Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in structural/stress, static, thermal, and dynamic analyses using finite element computer codes as well as first principle hand calculations is required.
Prior knowledge and experience with the structural qualification and design basis requirements of various GE BWR reactor internal components and their modifications are a plus, though not essential.
Ability to learn newer concepts, procedures and practices quickly is required.Desired: Minimum of 3 years of hands-on and current proficiency in the use of ANSYS structural analysis computer program, 2D and 3D modeling techniques, proficiency in the application of static, thermal, and dynamic analysis methodologies, and knowledge of the underlying Finite Element Analysis principles are highly desired.
Applied experience in the use of ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code as it relates to structural qualification of nuclear plant components (eg., Section III, Section XI, etc.), and related nuclear regulatory requirements are desired.
Ability to work in a team environment is essential.
Capability to own the assigned responsibilities, follow schedules, make judicious decisions, deliver on commitments, stretch as necessary, and perform with minimal supervision is required.
