Sr. Oracle Database Administrator
Senior Oracle DBA
We are seeking a Senior Oracle DBA to join the team and be able to function independently. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the day to day maintenance of the Oracle database.
The candidate MUST be able to perform all aspects of Oracle database administration and maintenance for Oracle 9i as well as thoroughly understand RMAN backup and DataGuard. This person will need to have solid UNIX, Sun Solaris, and Windows experience. The candidate should understand UNIX scripts and be excellent at performance tuning, troubleshooting, and SQL coding.
REQUIREMENTS
Five Plus years experience of relational database development and administration experience with Oracle, specifically version 9i. Advanced experience with UNIX Sun Solaris and ability to write scripts in o/s languages (e.g., korn shell). Experience with tools such as Oracle Enterprise Manager, RMAN, DataGuard, and RAC. Demonstrated advanced understanding of SQL and PL/SQL.
Experience managing Oracle databases as backend systems in a web-based environment.
BS in Computer Science, MIS, Business, or equivalent education/training/experience-Professional certification (e.g., Oracle OCP).
Duties:
The Senior Database Administrator is responsible for leading the design and implementation of new production databases, monitoring and maintaining existing production/QA databases, resolving complex database issues, problem determinations, optimizing performance, capacity planning, and implementing protocols for disaster recovery and security. This may include providing task direction, mentoring, and project management to other team members.
Other Duties:
Recommend long-term technology solutions (capacity planning) in accordance with an understanding of the methodology, architecture, and business needs of the organization. Maintain database performance by monitoring space, CPU usage, fragmentation of data and by tuning queries, etc. Assist other DBAs with complex problems and analyze and resolve issues using database tools. Determine, implement, and oversee the need for database maintenance and communicate/coordinate with affected customers, minimizing business interruption wherever possible. Work with other DBAs, System Engineers, Software Developers, and appropriate parties to coordinate integration and ensure compatibility of hardware, operating systems, database tools and applications. Provide 24x7 response to request for support on database performance issues. Provide advice, task direction, and guidance to other DBAs and correct and communicate resolution through appropriate channels. Ensure database integrity by developing, documenting, communicating, managing and enforcing protocols involving changes to database structure, data, procedures, and user access. Develop, communicate, and carry out procedures designed to facilitate recovery from database failure, such as online backups, archiving, and exports. Collaborate with project teams to evaluate new database needs. Review the proposed logical and physical database models, consult with the Data Architect as appropriate, and participate in creation of the final database structure as necessary.

Required Skills:
Min. 5+ years experience with the following: This candidate MUST be able to perform all aspects of Oracle database administration and maintenance for Oracle 9i as well as thoroughly understand RMAN backup and DataGuard. This person will need to have solid UNIX, Sun Solaris and Windows experience. The candidate should understand UNIX scripts and be excellent at performance tuning, troubleshooting, and SQL coding. Solid experience with SQL query writing, tuning, debugging, backup and recovery database optimization. Hands on experience, as opposed to solely using GUI tools like enterprise Manager or Toad. Must be able to sit at a screen without GUI tools and problem solve.
