Sr. Environmental Engineer

Company: North America Mining Job Function: Engineering And Architectural Job Description: The successful candidate will have primary responsibility for management, oversight, and reporting of environmental compliance matters pertaining to environmental media of groundwater, surface water, drinking water, waste, and air. Coordination of these compliance matters with major mine reclamation projects will be required. Management of multiple capital projects and professional services contracts will be required. Interact with regulatory personnel from state and federal agencies and escort them on tours, visits, and inspections.The successful candidate will also have supervisory responsibilities. These responsibilities include supervision of Environmental Engineers and Environmental Technicians: their activities, standard operating procedures, and equipment; as well as Human Resource duties.This position will be afforded the opportunity to participate in a significant level of environmental permitting activities, both in support of ongoing operations as well as for future mine expansions. In addition, the position will integrate closely and have cross-training opportunities with other environmental and reclamation functions at Tyrone Mine. This position has excellent opportunities for advancement.
Bachelor's degree in environmental engineering, geology, hydrogeology, natural resource sciences or equivalent education or experience.

Seven (7) years engineering experience in environmental management, including project management and experience.

Working knowledge of state and federal environmental regulations.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Demonstrated ability to manage large capital projects on time and within budget.

Proficiency at word processing, spreadsheet and database applications.

Demonstrated technical report writing skills.

Performs other duties/tasks as required.-Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions.

Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards.

Self-motivated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Work in a fast paced environment.

Have a valid New Mexico driver’s license or the ability to attain.
Bachelor's degree in environmental engineering, hydrology, geology, or a related engineering or scientific discipline combined with at least three years of practical environmental field experience. Advanced degree or Professional Engineering (PE) Certification preferred.

Working knowledge of state and federal environmental regulations.

Proficiency at word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.

Ability to perform field inspections of water control structures and other mine facilities.

Self-motivated, ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Have a valid New Mexico driver’s license or the ability to obtain one.

Perform other duties/tasks as required.

Knowledge in MS Office software and MS Project softwareWork location is in a mine and manufacturing plant setting. Required to wear personal protective equipment in accordance with Phelps Dodge policies and practices. Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in an outdoor or plant environment including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear and other protective equipment as required.While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, walk, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs and ladders, talk, hear and see. Occasionally may be required to lift moderately heavy objects (up to 30 pounds) during the course of the workday. Will be required to be on call and work during unscheduled times on an as needed basis.Must provide own vehicle in accordance with PD Runzheimer Plan. (The Runzheimer Plan is a business-vehicle allowance system designed to reimburse drivers for the operating and fixed costs of their personally provided business vehicles.
