Qwest - Government Services Division Chantilly, VA FG1026 Senior Engineer (OSP): Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. US Citizenship required. Responsibilities: Under limited supervision, performs engineering work, survey work, schedule planning and implementation, quality control of permit drawings, construction drawings, and as-builts, reviews inspector and redliner work as pertains to assigned projects. Reviews, analyzes and resolves field construction problems, discrepancies or interference. Provides interpretation of plans, detail sheets and specifications for contractors or inspectors. Capable of completing permit drawings/applications and processing such. Attends various governmental and general meetings. Assists inspector employees with OJT. Update the Lead OSP Engineer weekly on the status of projects or as required. Provide inputs to written weekly reports to Manager. Design and engineer underground outside plant fiber optic cable systems. Manage and coordinate OSP fiber optic projects from design through as-built delivery. QC all drawings or as-builts for assigned projects upon completion by CAD personnel. Identify all problem areas on jobs and discuss with Lead Engineer and others as needed. Make running line changes in accordance with local regulations: City, County, State, Railroad and Qwest specifications. Keep detailed record of daily work/project activities (Logbooks) for future reference. Provide feedback on inspector employees to Lead Engineer. Review Redliners work and assist with problems and questions to ensure errors and omissions are corrected. Update gap lists, keep list of rock digs, handholes (if placed) and directional bores for assigned projects. Understands and adheres to company policies and practices. Indirectly supervises Contract and Employee Inspectors and Construction Crews and Redliners on a project basis. Responsible for the successful completion of customer project requirements. Responsible for coordinating subcontractors, materials, inspectors, tools and equipment to complete projects on schedule and within budget.As a dedicated employee, you are one of Qwest's most important assets. REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications:
BS in Engineering or equivalent work experience (8 years construction engineering or similar discipline). 2 Years of Underground Utility Construction Engineering experience. Strong people skills. Good penmanship, drafting and verbal skills. Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions. Able to travel by auto or airplane on short notice for surveys, meetings, and inspection work. Good physical condition - capable of standing all day and walking several miles following construction equipment and crews (in case required to fill in for inspector). Able to sit and look at computer terminal while working drawings and spreadsheets for extended periods. Must possess a clean driving record.
