Space Robotics & Autonomous Control Lead

Primary Responsibility: Senior level system and software engineer with strong leadership skills and the ability to select and develop new technologies suitable for supporting future Civilian and National Security business opportunities.

Specific Duties:
Development and implementation of robotic systems for Exploration Initiatives, unmanned autonomous vehicles, and proximity operations.
Provide leadership for development in robotics research activities, advanced technology, roadmap planning and new business development.
Support new system concepts development, engage sponsors, develop white papers and respond to cost estimation and proposal activities.
Develop capabilities to support robotic space exploration visions such as Lunar and Martian missions.
Perform software and system robotics architecture development in support of NASA Exploration and Human and Robotics Initiatives.
Support full lifecycle software and system engineering development including system architectures, trade study and gap analysis. Develop autonomous control and algorithm design.
Perform system analysis and design of sample return and in-situ resource utilization techniques.
REQUIREMENTS
Required:
M.S. or PhD Computer Science or Equivalent.
10 - 15 years of experience developing spacecraft system engineering and software engineering.
Strong written and oral communication skills. Experience in proposal development.
Strong interpersonal skills, initiative and follow-through.
Interest in technical and administrative management.
Strong analytical problem-solving and leadership characteristics, including the ability to visualize, select, and communicate system level solutions and new technical direction.
Knowledge in AI, Machine Learning, human and robotic interfaces, haptic environments, precision navigation and terrain mapping.
Experienced in OO, UML, Java, C/C , SOA. Experience with Solaris, Unix, Linux, network computing.
Experienced in software design methodology and configuration management systems.

Desired: Experienced with field robotics, distributed sensors, human-robotics interaction, genetic algorithms, collaborative and swarming techniques.

Special Working Conditions: May include frequent travel to participate in sponsor engagement activities. Provide occasional support for off-hours assignments in system integration, testing, and launch preparations.
