Software Systems Engineer, Senior

Basic Function
This associate, under general direction, formulates/defines specifications for complex operating software programming applications or modifies/maintains complex existing applications using engineering releases and utilities from manufacturer. Designs, codes, tests, debugs and documents those programs. Usually responsible for applications dealing with the overall operating system, such as sophisticated file maintenance routines, large telecommunications networks, computer accounting and advanced mathematical/scientific software packages. Competent to work at the highest technical level on all phases of software systems programming applications. May have responsibility for the evaluation of new and existing software products. May assist other systems programmers to effectively utilize the system’s technical software.

Essential Duties:
• Required to develop and maintain detailed operational procedural and system documentation and tracking logs.
• Resolve internal support request tickets, as well as resolve/prevent/document production issue prevention and corrections.
• Utilize high availability software management functions using Itera Echo2 (24x7) across multiple sites, includes monitoring, error checking, weekly role swapping and run book upkeep preferred.
• Maintain backup/restore & disaster recovery preparedness processes across multiple AS/400 platforms; experience with logically partitioned environment required.
• Responsible for defining and reporting system health and performance data using PM 400, evaluating DASD utilization across partitions, analysis of performance reports, automation of generated reports.
REQUIREMENTS
Education, Knowledge, Skills & Ability:
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related IT discipline with at least 5-7 years of AS/400 experience.
• Team leadership and Project Management experience for a team of three or more is desired.
• Auditing security experience on the iSeries.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently, communicate effectively, work well with others, use productive work methods, exercise sound judgment, and display initiative and innovation on the job.
• Demonstrated analytical, written, and oral communication skills.
• Available to provide 24x7 system support and Security Administration.
• Proven experience configuring iSeries Hardware and Software; two years experience with LPAR’s preferred.
• Proven experience with AS/400 job/system performance monitoring and capacity planning a must.
• Proven experience performing operating system PTF and upgrades a must.
• Two or more years experience with BRMS tape backup systems.
• 3rd party application configuration, support, and maintenance.
• Managing MQ series communications to/from AS/400.
