Software Engineer – Java / EMS Server

Department Description: This department is responsible for designing and developing a Java based Element Management System (EMS) in support of Motorola’s leading edge Fiber-To-The-Premises (FTTP) solution. The solution enables the delivery of voice, video and data services using BPON (Broadband Passive Optical Networking) communications infrastructure. Solution also supports a broad range of networking technologies including SONET and GbE Transport, TDM, ATM and IP protocols.

Responsibilities/Expectations: Principal engineer level developer responsible for design and development of Java-based Element Management System (EMS) applications for FTTP solution with emphasis on development of EMS server side features. ^^

Knowledge Skills: Candidate is expected to have a demonstrated history of design and implementation of commercially deployed Java-based applications.

Knowledge of large telecommunication carrier networks and element management is a plus.

BS/MS CS or BS/MS in Engineering and 7+ years experience in software development and design.

Proven track record demonstrating Java and OO design skills including extensive exposure to a wide variety of API’s such as threads, networking, security, database (e.g., JDBC, JMS, JMX, JNDI, RMI)

Exposure to XML-related technologies and API’s (e.g., XML, Schema, DOM, SAX, XSLT, Web Services)

Extensive SNMP development experience

Excellent analytical and design skills with proven capabilities in software design and debugging

Extensive experience designing and developing client/server applications

Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills

Desirable:
ATM and IP networking
Experience with development of graphical user interfaces using Java AWT and Swing packages.
Experience with Web Services and Web clients
Exposure to EMS/NMS of large RBOC carrier networks
