Position Description: The Software Architect in our organization is responsible for:

Software Architecture Development – Responsible for our system SW architecture including interface specifications.
Requirements Analysis – Analyze requirements specifications to develop reliable and flexible software architectures.
Decision Analysis – Simulation, optimization, and decision-making to support the evaluation and selection of alternative software architectures.
Systems Engineering – Understand system and product development and work with project management to support the product life cycle. Develop, specify, and verify software architectures and coach development departments during implementation.
Risk Management – Identify, assess, and develop mitigations to product and process risks.
Modeling – Develop functional, operational, and interface architectures for our medical products.
Human Factors – Understand human-system interfaces to develop suitable architectures supporting ease of use and usability.
Service – Provide mentoring, research, teaching, and service to the team and other managers.
The following are specific responsibilities of the Software Architect:

Work with systems engineering to develop and document the project’s scope, the product features, its functional requirements, and product risk mitigations.
Write SW architecture specifications according to our standard templates and procedures.
Develop system and software architectures to support functional requirements and business needs as well as product reliability, flexibility, and quality.
Participate in peer reviews and inspections of requirements documents as well as code reviews.
Provide guidance and direction to the SW development team to ensure architectural integrity of the product.
Experience and Competencies: 7+ years of software/system engineering including 4+ years of software architecture experience preferably in a medical device or other regulated product development organization. Good understanding of UML modeling techniques, architectural patterns, and state of the art software architecture.

Excellent knowledge about systems and software architecture in PC based medical systems using Microsoft XP operating systems.
Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills to communicate information effectively to marketing, managers, and technical staff.
Ability to convey ideas and concepts to a wide range of audiences including product management and engineers is essential.
Excellent understanding and hands on experience of C++ and .NET is required.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline oriented environment as part of a team.
Produce excellent results with minimal supervision.
Strong analytic and decision-making skills.
Strong quality orientation and customer focus.
Interaction and collaboration with several departments and locations around the world is required.
Occasional domestic and international travel required.
Education/Equivalent Training Required: BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering or related field required. Technical masters degree a plus.
